Arthritis Drug ‘Will Save Thousands’ Of Covid-19 Patients After Excellent Trial Results

A drug used to treat rheumatoid arthritis has been found to improve survival of hospitalized Covid-19 patients. The discovery comes from a study of over 1,500 Covid-19 patients in 12 countries and is being hailed as a significant breakthrough for treatment options for people who are severely ill with Covid-19.

Early on in the pandemic in February 2020, baricitinib was identified as a promising drug to treat Covid-19 by a company using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to identify potential treatments for diseases. The drug, normally used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, was thought to have possible antivirus properties, but also known to be a strong inhibitor of inflammation. The researchers hoped that these anti-inflammatory properties would reduce the multi-organ damage often sustained by severely ill Covid-19 patients.

“Hospitalized patients with the SARS-CoV-2 infection (which causes Covid-19), often develop an intense hyperinflammatory state that can lead to dysfunction of multiple organs, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, septic shock and death,” said E. Wesley Ely, MD, MPH, Grant Liddle Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, one of the leaders of the study. “Despite treatment advances with remdesivir, dexamethasone and tocilizumab, reducing mortality among hospitalized patients remains a crucial unmet need,” added Ely.

They know plenty.

But they won’t use proven drugs that have no monetary benefit to them, their hospital administrators, or Big Pharma.

They all have blood on their hands!

I have been giving baricitinib for the last several weeks. Does very little. More wishful thinking from people who do not treat this disease everyday. It is an IL - 6 inhibitor on an analogue basis with tolciluzimab. Generally not helpful.

HCQ is even less useful than baricitinib

India basically dropped HCQ for Ivermectin.

Nice to see you suggest alternative treatment rather than straight up vax.

I believe the 5% that would be saved, disagree with you.

You’re on the side that has done all wild and crazy things up to destroying the economy for tens of millions of people, and all sorts of insane non-working things like all kinds of ineffective masks that do zip to reduce deaths and infections, yet we find something that saves 5% of folks with life-threatening cases and you crap all over it.

There it is folks. Theres that branch covidian logic at work. I guess when something works even a bit, and its not the death shots or whatever fauxci spews out, its no good.

Thanks for posting that about the Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13). Interestingly, I had Pneumovax-23 which has shown no effect on COVID, then I had Prevnar 13 (which is a PCV13), followed by a second shot of Pneumovax-23. I’m not sure how that happened. Anyway, that’s really good news from the Kaiser Permanente study: Among adults ages 65 years old and older, those who received the pneumonia vaccine PCV13 had:
• 35% lower incidence of COVID-19 diagnosis
• 32% lower incidence of COVID-19 hospitalization
• 32% lower incidence of COVID-19 death

Those are huge reductions!

Between the COVID vax, the PCV13, and my supplant & vitamin regimen, I should be in good shape. Now if I could only turn back the clock (turned 70 a few weeks back).

Well that certainly covers a lot of territory.

I am aware of all the alternatives.
HCQ is worthless as a treatement
Ivermectin is equally as worthless and delays people from getting something that works
If early use probably at best modest help as to the ivermectin
Monoclonal antibodies are nothing short of spectacular but must be administered early. Delaying this treatment in the hopes of getting horse paste or an actual human prescription reduces precious times for something that works
As for Phase III illness (inflammatory state) nothing works with any great results. People are given Dexamethasone, I have been using some rather large doses with marginal effect, Tolciluzimab had some mild promise and probably kept a few who were on the cliff from falling off of it. Baricitinib I have seen little positive results.

To the greater question, there are alternative treatments. What works (monoclonals, but get them early) are in my judgment the way to stop this. But treatments are NOT the same as prevention. As FLCCC states -> treatment methodology and vaccines work hand in hand.

I do NOT think there should ever be a mandatory vaccine — however, the fact that we actually have a treatment should be used and spoken about daily. As one of our fellow Freeper says — check the restrictions in your neck of the woods and be ready to act swiftly. In my neck of the woods it is incredibly easy to procure.

I think given the data that there are many more infections than reported plus delta we are close to herd immunity. I think the vaccines have closed the time to get there.

And contrary to what several say, there is still minimal vaccinated hosts in the hospital and progression to critical illness is very rare in our region. I choose to believe that I see everyday in a fairly large population. And I think we should be just about done with this once delta blows through.

Fauci is still an idiot. He and Biden are the senile twins in my estimation.

The magic word is regeneron.

Zinc and a zinc ionophore can’t hurt either...

Thank goodness there are plenty of white mice :-)

Be sure to try to kill whatever covid you bring home in your nose and mouth to lessen your viral load.

I cannot stand nasal irrigation. Some ENTs recommend johnson baby shampoo irrigation after surgery etc.

Not even the threat of covid can get me to do it.

Ivermectin and HCQ don't have that kind of warning. FAR safer, already available and in use for decades!

Check out the side-effects! Some mimic respiratory illness (hint: Covid). Coughing up pink mucous? And the list below is not complete!

Baricitinib side effects

Stop taking baricitinib and get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

You may get infections more easily, even serious or fatal infections. Call your doctor right away if you have signs of infection such as:

Further doses may be delayed until your infection clears up.

Also call your doctor at once if you have:

Common side effects may include:

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Shut up. The media will have no choice but to demonize this drug now. Nothing that protects the health of folks, other than the vax, can possibly be good.

I thought the same thing about 1 in 20...BUT, reading on in the article you find that
"Crucially, the patients who benefitted the most from the drug were the most severely ill, including those on a bipap machine to help them breathe or high flow oxygen. In these more severely ill patients, the researchers found that 1 in 9 patients were saved who would have otherwise died."
Medications for the end-stage of the disease have been few and far between. This could be significant for the severely ill patients in ICU.

Cool!! I’ve had PCV13 and geriatric Flu vaccine (I guess “geriatric” means high-dose). Just got my “geriatric” flu shot today.

Fauci often contradicts his prior published work...

I say again, if anyone is taking the various prophylactics to ward off covid DO NOT make the mistake of depending on it if symptoms develop.

When you show any signs of illness seek proper medical help immediately and insist on monoclonal antibody infusion!

You can find out if it is readily available near you, and do ask your physician about the particulars...

Antibody infusion will NOT give long-term immunity like you gain from having covid and surviving it...but it CAN save you!

I’ve been using Povidone-Iodine (”Betadine”) mouthwash / gargle together with Vicks “First Defense” nasal spray whenever I get the slightest hint of a sore throat. So far, none of my sore throats have progressed to colds (which is great for me because my colds often progress to bronchitis).

I should probably begin using the gargle and nasal spray more often — as you say, whenever I get home.

The very thought of baby shampoo of the old schnozzola gives me the willies.
