Buying a car from General Morons means you’ll get the defects and recalls you deserve.

I have had success buying GM cars by getting really old ones, and usually with a proven drivetrain. A 20+ year old Chevy Caprice, Buick Park Avenue, or Buick Roadmaster is a good bet. The garbage ones were already retired. The 350 LT-1 engine and the the 3.8 L. engine are sound. I stay away from Cadillacs because extra gizmos in old cars = $$$ on repairs.

Yup. Tesla’s are a dime a dozen here in CA. It’s become a fad. Much like the queers buying Priuses.

There is quite a bit of Lithium about 35 miles down the road near Gastonia, NC.

Elon has contracted for up to 50% of their production for the next 5 years, IIRC.

“The Charlotte area once led the world in lithium exports.”

https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1133254_fires-are-less-frequent-in-teslas-and-other-evs-vs-gas-vehicles

“There were almost 190,000 vehicle fires in the U.S. in 2019, and they happen in gasoline vehicles at a much higher rate. It notes that from 2012 to 2020 there was about one Tesla vehicle fire per 205 million miles traveled—versus one per 19 million miles traveled for all types, citing data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and U.S. Department of Transportation.”

Nobody mentions the embedded cost to recycle the lithium batteries and make the remaining waste safe for disposal. I’ve never seen a figure for that.

I’d take 1983-4 for the time machine to drop me off.

The Remington Steele parallel universe would be ok.

Hahahahaha. Chevy is a Government Motors brand. I just got mu Hyundai Kona electric back for the exact same problem which is that all their batteries were made in China. All. They had to replace every single one of them at 32,000 bucks a week pop. Guess who paid for it? Hyundai. Look for them to stop selling electric cars in America. They already stopped selling the Kona in Korea and that’s where they make them.

Lithim fires are Class D fires that cannot be extinguished by your local FD.

Well Son of a Bitch! GM was just about to announce that the long range / quick charge battery was damn near ready. As soon as the next 12th of Never.
Well, we have been waiting on it since at least 1900, I am sure we can wait a few decades longer

“I am sure we can wait a few decades longer” ... and I’m equally sure the government can spend hundreds of billions more dollars chasing this chimera.

Actually, I am pretty sure it is French. It has a really goofy name, but I think that new consortium is controlled by Peugeot.

GM. The people who gave you the electric car. And recalled it.

How do you pay?

For reference the battery has a 64 kilowatt capacity and I get 4.5 miles per kilowatt on average. You can never run out or you will need a tow truck. The last 1 or 2 kilowatts are unusable for all practical purposes.

Some outlets are free. I know at least 3 different places I can go right now to get cree electricity. They are 3.25 to 6.5 kilowatts per hour. 6.5 if nobody is using the second cord on some of them.

The ones that cost you use a credit card or a phone app. I have 4 different apps to charge with. Cost per kilowatt ranges from 17 cents to 40 cents. I usually pay 23 cents per kilowatt at the fast charger which is up to 45 kilowatts per hour.

Honestly I have to say I look for places that I can drive to just to be driving my electric car somewhere. I have driven from central CA to Washington State twice and south to Bishop CA over the Sierras. I would love to go to the coast or Vegas.

I remember when GM made the best cars but that’s 50 years ago.

Right about the time my boss bought a brand-new Chevy El Camino car with all the options, around 1970. In the 14 months he owned it, it was in the shop perhaps 12 of those months. Everything went wrong with it, engine failures, transmission, rear differential, and body issues. The black paint was messed up and he forced the dealer to repaint it. One time he was parked facing downhill in the rain, backed up, and got drenched with a cascade of water from the ceiling. When the dealer tore open the ceiling to fix it, they found a wrench from the factory inside the ceiling. Towards the end of the first year, he sued GM and ended up winning the lawsuit. He vowed to never again buy an American car, and stuck to that vow.

“An acquaintance on FB posted that in 7300 miles her Tesla told her she saved 292 gallons of gas, and 339 trees. She was so proud, you could tell she wanted everyone to know that she was smart, and superior. Interestingly, no mention of load on the grid, nor of the environmental impact of lithium batteries.”
The only good reason to own a Tesla is to impress your liberal friends.
