Sirhan B. Sirhan, convicted of the 1968 assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, will face a California parole board for the 16th time Friday in a prison outside San Diego. But unlike the first 15 times, no prosecutor will stand to oppose the release of Sirhan, who is now 77.
Sirhan was arrested at the scene of Kennedy’s shooting in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968, convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the slaying of a U.S. senator who appeared headed for the Democratic presidential nomination.
*** When California abolished the death penalty, Sirhan’s sentence was reduced to life with the possibility of parole. And now Sirhan, who has been incarcerated for 53 years, may benefit from a new push among progressive prosecutors to seek the release, or not oppose the release, of convicts who have served decades behind bars, no longer pose a threat to society and will be costly to treat medically in their later years.
Newly elected Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón told The Washington Post shortly before his inauguration in December that he was creating a sentencing review unit to revisit the cases of about 20,000 prisoners for possible resentencing, analyzing both the fairness of long sentences and the cost savings for releasing low-risk or older inmates.***
In Sirhan’s case, Gascón’s office is remaining neutral. The office said it will not attend the parole hearing, as Los Angeles prosecutors have done historically, but it also will not send a letter in support of Sirhan’s parole.
*** Kennedy is survived by his wife, Ethel Kennedy, and nine children, many of whom declined to comment. The family has not submitted any letters taking a position on Sirhan’s parole and have not requested to speak at Friday’s hearing.

I still don’t know IF he did it!
Neither does he.
I’ve come to the realization of what a tragedy RFK’s killing was.
His death basically cleared the way for the loonies to take over the Democratic Party.
Imagine if RFK had served two terms, instead of Nixon. RFK pretty much was regarded as the more conservative of the Kennedys. The Democratic Party would have remained somewhat sane.
Bet some of the new kids on the block don’t even know who he is
Regardless, reading about his last sixteen parole attempts his big mouth always did him in regardless of what his lawyer told him not to do.
I think had he been President, the love affair Hippies had with RFK would have worn off very quickly. Even Reagan had remarked how conservative RFK was sounding, on that fateful night of the California Primary.
True, but the party in Gaza will be bad optics for the Palestinians and for Gascon and the other Soros-backed "DAs for Crime."
He could sing a duet with John Hinckley on YouTube.
Prosecutors no longer prosecute. Ecclesiastes 8:11. Why crime increases, in a nutshell.
Aren’t there any Kennedy’s left to see he doesn’t get paroled?
Will he be visiting the White House perhaps?
Hmmmmmmmmm.......?
He did us all a favor.
omg most people alive today don’t understand this was a 9/11 level crime. He slaughtered one of the left’s heroes and these leftist pigs will let him out.
They would probably release Lee Harvey Oswald if they could.
No one gets jail time for an abortion, so why did he?
I still don’t know why he did it.
Mob hit
No. Loonies had taken over the party back in 1913. America has never, nor will it recover.
To this day, I’m terrified of kitchens.
It’s a good thing Charles Manson has already died in prison.
Palestinian scum
Sirhan was brainwashed and fired blanks.

Sirhan’s action back then is what unleashed the anti-gun fanatics to pass the horrid 1968 Gun Control Act into law.
We are still suffering from what he did.
