I watched a YouTube video last night about why Afghanistan is so tough to conquer. It stated that something like 50% or more of the materials coming into country come through the Khyber Pass from Pakistan.
At one point it was more like 2/3.
Now things come in from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and too. So, IF you blow up the Khyber pass. You basically stop 50% of the commerce of the country. That puts a big dent in the opium trade.
