I don’t believe that. You just have to kill everyone.
They’re warring, murderous, blood-drenched *tribes*, like North Vietnam was/is; not a *nation*, like Germany and Japan were.
To have any chance in Afghanistan you would have to take it to the Paks and Iranians as well supplying the resistance. Not feasible unless you are willing to go total war mode and then it would be questionable. Plus, it’s just not worth these people who want to live like 7th century hermits.
