We ran into this a few years ago. Tried to explain to on-site staff that a network switch had no current logs as a syslog server was being used. Was going around in circles.
At one site, we do have a dead in the water Check Point firewall appliance. Unfortunately, the power supplies are not removable, so the whole appliance needs to be sent back. But that hard drive DOES have rulebase, firewall objects, etc. I told Check Point we need to remove the drives and drill them out. Check Point said no and I said “guess you’re not getting your appliance back”. Been almost a year now! LOL
hehe.......yeah will NEVER understand (or underestimate) the inability of some in government “sysadmin” to not simply GOOGLE (excuse the not-implied endorsement of “Google” of course) the current ability (or disability) of their given network.
Again, we pay them WAYyyyy....too much......but I digress........
