An 84-year old German man has been fined 250,000 euros ($297,000 USD) for storing a collecting of World War II-era weapons in his basement, including a 45-ton Nazi tank, according to German media reports.
The court in Kiel, Germany convicted the man under the country’s War Weapons Control Act after a search of the octogenarian’s home resulted in the discovery of a large collection of wartime military weapons stored in his underground garage, including the Panther tank, a torpedo, mortars, anti-aircraft guns, machine guns, automatic pistols and 1,500 rounds of ammunition, the Register reported.
The defendant, whose name was kept confidential due to German privacy law, received a 14-month suspended sentence. He must donate or sell the tank and the anti-aircraft guns to a museum or collector within two years, reported the Associated Press.

I also got stuck on the “cash of weapons”. How much cash are we talking about, here? Is it denominated in Deutsche Marks, Euros, or Dollars?
Life keeps getting more confusing.
You could get a permit for the main gun, too, I think.
He could have given rides to the kiddies on VE Day. Could have had his own personal theme park, and charged admissions. But nooooooo!
Maybe someone could buy the anti-aircraft gun to defend against F-16 attacks?
IF the old guy can’t keep them, I hope there is a museum that will purchase them.
If he has some MP-44s, I am sure collectors here would love to buy them.
Only decent scene in the movie.
Years ago in L.A. one of the movie studios were getting rid of a bunch of their props which included a WWI tank with real big hard rubber wheels not tracks.
He got it and equipped it with all the necessary turn signals, lights etc and drove it in to Downtown L.A. on the Harbor freeway. Bet it was a chore getting it signed off as a legal vehicle.
Again it was 45 years ago.
Todays communist Calif would Never allow it.

I know a guy in New Jersey that restores AFV’s. He had a couple of investors that wanted a tank restored with a working main gun. He refused for technical reasons. He also know the guys in the above article that died when the breach exploded on their M-10 Hellcat tank destroyer. And THAT is the reason he doesn’t mess with main guns.
Home self defense with extreme prejudice?
The movie-opening scene showed Germany was losing badly. Next thing you know these BOYS(!) started singing and Kessler gets into it with them. He knew they were losing and preferred the kamikaze mission to the fräulein the general sent him. At then of the movie I knew he was sick.
BTW-Henry Fonda got the role of the smart, good guy who was right in the end. He did in most of his flicks. Think 12 angry Men. Plenty of others.
Wrong war..........................
Yeah, there’s a place in Texas called DriveTanks.com where you can drive AND Fire a Sherman, a T-34, or a Scorpion.
You can also fire 105 Howitzers, and both Soviet and German artillery.
Don’t go bragging about your tank at the biergarten.
It was the movie where he needed a bigger tank before he needed a bigger boat.
Good news. They made an Flakpanzer variant of the Panther.
We had a guy in Houston who parked his tank on the street, in front of his home in River Oaks, a very posh residence neighborhood. Neighbors were annoyed, HOA intervened, but he got to keep it there.
