Thanks. Haven’t heard that one in a while....
“That sucked more than anything that has ever sucked before.”
But seriously, what was the point of seeing “A Flock of Seagulls” in concert?
Oh, that was not on purpose. They, along with The Fixx were opening acts for the The Police.
Safety Dance
I liked The Fixx.
One of the groups I regret not seeing was Duran Duran.
I remember Kennedy hosting MTV back in those days. Appreciate many of her libertarian views shared on Fox occasionally some 30 years later.
I really liked “Twilight Zone” by Golden Earring. It was like a mini spy movie. The Men-at-Work videos were also fun.
MTV turns 40. I want to thank them for 15 years of music.
Happy 40th Birthday, MTV, thanks for 3 GREAT years!
Thinking a lot about ZZ Top since Dusty passed on, but I never thought it would have been possible for those guys to ever become music video stars, LOL!
I believe those lyrics were in reference to Boy George.
I forgot about those videos with those insanely hot women (Sharp Dressed Man, Legs, etc).
And who knows the second song? First woman. First solo act. And she cannot buy her way into the Rock n Roll HOF.
Ditto on both. I saw a lot of great bands during that time (still have a lot of the concert tickets) and I bet Duran Duran would have been a spectacle on par with Genesis, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Def Leppard...
Strangely, just about all those original "VJs" have been DJs on Sirius radio for so long that I forget they ever were on MTV.
I did college radio. We had a promoter come to give away tickets to Flock of Seagulls at a small venue. “First caller gets 2 tickets” sort of thing, so all of us who worked at the station would go outside and use the pay phone to call in. The show itself wasn’t so great but we were college kids having fun at a live music club.
I saw Duran Duran in their day. I was a big fan back then. I saw them again more recently (a few years ago) in Vegas, also a small venue. Great show. Also saw Foo Fighters the next night, same place. The fans were incredible. Saw Sting there too a few months later. He also came on full force like he hasn’t aged since Roxanne.
I worked in the Cable biz from the early 80’s to late 90’s. In the early days MTV had the best SWAG and put on great parties at the conventions.
I got a couple MTV silk jackets. Sold them a few years ago. Never washed, and yet they seemed to have shrunk over the years. Ha ha.
Who else had a crush on Martha Quinn?
