Thousands Of Ships, Millions Of Troops: China Is Assembling a Huge Fleet For War With Taiwan

To have any chance of conquering Taiwan, China might need to transport as many as two million troops across the rough 100 miles of the Taiwan Strait and land them under fire at the island’s 14 potential invasion beaches or 10 major ports.

That’s a lot of people—far, far more than the People’s Liberation Army Navy can haul in its 11 new amphibious ships. To transport the bulk of the invasion force, Beijing almost certainly would take up into naval service thousands of civilian ships.

To that end, the Chinese Communist Party has created a legal and bureaucratic framework for taking over control of commercial shipping. Meanwhile, naval engineers have begun modifying key vessels to make them better assault ships.

All that is to say, the vast flotilla that would be both the vehicle for China’s assault on Taiwan—and the biggest target of Taiwanese forces and their allies—is taking shape.

“If the PLA invasion force was a million or more men, then we might expect an armada of thousands or even tens of thousands of ships to deliver them, augmented by thousands of planes and helicopters,” Ian Easton, an analyst with the Project 2049 Institute in Virginia, wrote in a recent report.

The PLAN’s eight modern Type 071 landing docks and three Type 075 big-deck assault ships together can haul around 25,000 troops. A drop in the bucket. To transport the balance of the invasion force, the Chinese navy can take up around 2,000 large commercial vessels crewed by around 650,000 mariners.

“Does the UN or any international authority recognize Chinese control of Taiwan?”

Just about all of them do, to appease the Chinese. Even the US has a “one China policy”, where we pretend that Taiwan is just a province of China when we are dealing with the Chinese.

Basically the island was always part of China, but it was the last refuge of the Nationalist government after WWII. So it’s still sovereign Chinese territory, but there is one government in control of the mainland, and another “government in exile” ruling Taiwan.

Taiwan has never declared independence. They are a renegade province.

China will send a sampan navy of civilians armed with cameras, bullhorn 🎤mics , and CNN satellite connections. It will be labelled “the great migration”.

If Taiwan fires on those people it will be a PR nightmare.

If America sends a fleet to defend Taiwan, we will luze 2 aircraft carriers and withdraw. Aircraft Carriers are the easiest thermal targets in the ocean and their resultant nukular plume will be spectacular CNN coverage.

How could biden hand over Taiwan?? He doesn’t own it.
I have been in Taiwan many times and they are ready for an invasion. It won’t be a cake walk for the chinese. The only major problem is the Taiwanese people are unarmed compared to here and way too many soyboys.

Eisenhower did have a bunch of commandos running around making a mess of things in France.
But Ike couldn’t buy his commandos airline tickets into occupied France and Germany, nor could they get tourist or business visas, so it was bit harder for them.
Nor was Ike ‘Pearl Harboring’ the Germans, who were expecting his arrival at any time.

Do you think China cares if they lose a 100 million people?

They have slaughtered that many before, under Mao.

The Three Gorges Dam breaks....eh, less social spending by the communists.

Not surprised; China paid off Biden and the Dems for free reign over Taiwan.

The Chicoms would use Roll-on / Roll off (RO-RO) ships to deliver the troops and vehicles. The are faster to unload and don’t need much in the way of port facilities.
They also have containerized missiles that can turn a container ship into an improvised arsenal ship.

If EVER there was a time for China to invade, it is now. We have weak idiot in the White House, one that is predisposed (for a variety of reasons) to not oppose such an action by the Chicoms.

Who here is ready to send their son halfway across the world to die for Taiwan?

Anyone?

The US is in isolation mode. We’re tired of spilling our blood in long, drawn out wars.

If China takes Taiwan, I don’t see a huge uprising of the American public to take it back.

If anything, with the MSM on China’s side, I see a huge shoulder shrug.

Atlas Shrugged applies to military intervention overseas too.

“to put a bomb or missile precisely on the upstream side of a dam.”

Isn’t the upstream side the stronger side? It’s basically an arch laying on its side and upstream is above the arch, which is designed to withstand all the pressure. Probably better to hit the downstream side that isn’t designed to resist pressure at all, eh?

Keep in mind that every Chinese soldier, sailor or airman will be an only child and responsible for supporting the family. They will lose lots of them and their parents will not be supportive.

Biden will hand over Taiwan without a fight, or even lifting a finger, other than his middle finger at republicans for pointing out his lack of action.

Not totally up to Biden. Taiwan would defend itself, and Japan would likely help regardless what the US does. Looks like Australia would sit out. India is a wildcard, but likely would remain on the strategic defensive.

Biden doesn’t own Taiwan. (That’s a silly question, btw).

Handing over means to simply not lift a finger, and allow the Chinese to take Taiwan, with barely a fuss.

The U.S. is much weaker since Biden became president, and the military has been downgraded and not upgraded at all. We can’t fight the Chinese, unless they move beyond Taiwan and threaten us or our allies. Taiwan may be our ally, but, Biden won’t lift a finger to save Taiwan.

We have 3+ more years of Biden, but, Taiwan may be ‘gone’ before Biden is ‘ousted’ via the next election.

Taiwan cannot defend itself from China; not by itself.

And, the Japanese will not help either, and Australia will do like the U.s.; sit it out.

china will control the world if hey take over the chip production in Taiwan. That is what they are really after. The world knows that too so expect a lot of countries defending Taiwan. If the chip industry goes down the whole world will go down as we know it.

Witness what a few German E-boats were able to do when they happened on a bunch of LST’s making a training landing shortly before D-Day.
