Larry Elder Is Out to Rescue California From Gavin Newsom
The American Spectator ^ | 16 July 21 | Issac Willour

Posted on 07/17/2021 8:04:33 AM PDT by hapnHal

The massive pool of candidates looking to unseat Gavin Newsom as California governor has a new addition.

Conservative talk show host Larry Elder announced his bid for governor on Monday. Elder, who hosts the Larry Elder Show on the Salem Media Network, explained that he was hesitant to join the race: “This is a change of heart for me.… I’d love to serve. I’d hate to have to run.” He says that California’s poor condition under Newsom."

“I am a native son of California,” Elder told The American Spectator. “I grew up here. I love this state. I hate what’s happening rising crime, out-of-control homelessness, and the outrageous cost of living.”

Elder’s concerns reflect recent data. California has the third-highest cost of living of any state, and homicides jumped by 31 percent in 2020 over 2019.

The radio show host’s campaign went after Newsom’s hypocritical behavior during the pandemic: “Newsom imposed the most restrictive COVID mandates in the country — and then [proceeded] to ignore them when it came to him.” The governor was criticized for dining maskless with other public officials in November 2020 while California was still under his mask mandate.

Under Newsom’s leadership, California’s public schools switched to remote learning in March 2020 and plan to continue operating under COVID-19 restrictions, even as other states announce reopening in the fall with no mention of restrictions. In June, California’s largest teacher’s union moved to defend Newsom in the recall election. Elder seized on this point, telling The American Spectator, “We need choice in education, something that will never happen because the current governor is embedded with the teachers union.”

In large part because of these policies, Newsom is the second governor in California’s history to face a recall. A petition for the recall garnered over 1.7 million signatures.

He doesn’t stand a chance folks. The CA legislature is overwhelming Dem plus you have literally hundreds of state agencies and departments. Also Elder will be 70 next year.

Seems like a vanity campaign.

The lengthy candidate campaign list makes Newscum’s job a lot easier sadly.

Last I heard is that Democratic-controlled California state legislature has veto-proof supermajority control over state. So while I applaud Californians who want to make California a better place to live for citizens, won't a successful recall of Newsom be somewhat symbolic?
Dems gain veto-proof supermajority in California legislature (11.12.18)

Corrections, insights welcome.

Those who post negative comments on this thread are jerks.

Larry Elder can win. He’s got my vote. There’s a hundred candidates and the one with the most votes wins. If Elder gets 25% of the Republican vote he will win in a landslide.

He has name recognition and everyone knows his positions on everything.

In California for the past two decades, it’s not that conservative policies have not been tried and found wanting, conservative policies HAVE NOT BEEN TRIED AT ALL!

Californians keep voting in the same left-wing liberal politicians hoping things would change but they never do. They just get worse.

And when they get dismayed at their current situation what do they do? They either abandon California and bring their voting ways with them to ruin other states or continue in the viscious cycle of voting the same way hoping things will change for the better.

Yes the Democrats barely have a super majority.

If we recall Newsom I believe it will rally the troops and we can get rid of that super majority.

What is our alternative? Lie down and take it?

Also, recalling Newsom is a gift to the nation. He has presidential aspirations and is a serious contender. Handsome, articulate, powerful, money, connections, trajectory - if we can recall him he will be politically crippled and our nation NEEDS that. He is BAD NEWS.

Ditto. Can’t believe how many surrender monkeys there are here.

Larry’s an easy carry for conservatives and may resonate with the Hispanic vote.

My wife and I are volunteering to work on his campaign.

Larry Elder is the real deal. Articulate ,Highly Intelligent and has been a fighter against the left all of his life. You might think being Black would make him immune to the synthetic Racism attack but I’m sure the left will find a way.

The Hokey cure-all ads he is doing on TV isn’t going to help him. Wait to try selling snake oil after the election.

That’s because most Republican politicians are stupid, have no common sense, and lazy. This is especially true in California. Furthermore, most Californians can’t even tell time, much less follow politics.

I agree. I'm sure Larry Elder is a good guy, but I plan to vote for Faulconer because as a San Diegan he's a known quantity to me.
