California should be split into four states and Texas should secede outright. That would leave us with 52 states and one new nation. Texas has their own power grid, their own ports, their own energy and national resources. They can be more successful without Washington impeding them.
If one Cali state has Northern California as far south as San Jose and a second state followed the coast as far south as Orange County. A third state would include Orange County and proceed to the rural lands along the Nevada border then the fourth state would have San Diego westeard to the Arizona border. That would likely create two liberal states and two conservative states. The combination of these two moves would keep the Senate where it is. It likely tilts the House further left.
There would probably be a drain of conservatives into Texas from the other 49 states but Texas will make clear that anyone emigrating to Texas will not be eligible to vote for five years from the time they become Texas citizens.
Would the snowflakes who are triggered by mean name-calling be up to a fight?
Would they venture out of their safe zones to go into combat?
Would the armed forces whose mission is diversity and inclusiveness be effective against forces whose mission is victory?
Without the right to secede, how can we call ourselves a free republic?
“But, what if states started seceding nowadays? Would the President send the military to keep states in the union nowadays?”
I think we’d see something more similar to what happened with Brexit, at least at first. They would try to throw up all sorts of legal roadblocks and use stalling tactics to stop any real separation from happening, instead of just marching troops in. They’d take issue with the vote, and call for another one, and if that didn’t go their way, another one, etc.
The Articles of Confederation didn’t work the first time around, why would we expect them to work now?

They worked.
The main problem with that is that we’d be stuck with the debt they ran up.
At some point the government will admit it can’t pay the debt, regardless of what happens.
Seceding is a lot like quitting and it won't stop until you are all alone.
I’ve had a great many FReepers argue to me that we basically all surrendered our right to self-determination when we ratified the Constitution. Of course that was when discussing the Civil War. I’m sure some of them are singing a different tune nowadays.

Don’t try impossible things. The U.S. government can’t be saved.
Then that is the time to pull the trigger.
I would secede. Let them deal with the debt.
All we need to do is pass a constitutional amendment. And there are more red states than blue so we have the advantage in pushing that thru.
Too many countries, merge the South and mountain states plus Missouri and you would have a formidable country. Alaska would likely go off on its own or go with the mountain states before being swallowed up by radicals in the pacific states.
Well, you can reseed... your lawn. You can have a receding hairline. And you can succeed in fooling some of the people all of the time. But can you unsecede? It is supposed to be a one way trip. Very good question.
I reluctantly agree. Secession is rapidly becoming the only alternative to tyranny. Just this morning I wrote to the governor of my state asking him to begin the process of re-building the state militia. Will he do it? Probably not, but we have got to begin the push. The red states need to get prepared. With dangerous fools like Biden and his buttboy Gen. Maoley out there we are in serious danger of losing everything.
Nothing is impossible for God.
Nothing is impossible for God.
Think the division and violence of 1990s Yugoslavia spread across the country, mixed with a bit of Rwandan tribalism taking place in certain areas, and throw in a little Spanish Civil War international adventurism and I think you could paint a pretty good picture of what things would look like.
There are three paths forward:
1. All states become liberal through immigration and vote corruption
2. Military coup to reset our country, with military tribunals cor the traitors
3. Conservative states succeed and reset America without the accretions of corrupt history.
I favor #2
I guess they are going to sit it out waiting on the big quake.
