‘urban blight’ is just the inevitable result of socialist / progressive policies and practices.

A Neiman Marcus store was recently robbed by several criminals at around 2:30pm in the afternoon so what hours do they open and close now?

Family Dollar and Dollar General have been taking up the slack in the inner cities over the past fifteen year. I toured the state of Arizona a few years ago and was amazed at how these dollar stores served rural areas. Often you'd come around a bend on a two-lane road into a small valley with maybe a dozen scattered houses, and there would only be two businesses there, a gas station and a dollar store.

I was in a Rite Aid the other day and noticed that some of the sleep aids are now locked in cases. A couple of months ago in a Walgreens, I noticed that certain toothpaste brands are now locked in cases. This is just north of Seattle.
A couple of years ago, the local Fred Meyer moved all alcoholic beverages into a closed-off section with a gated entry and its own cash register. It's a deterrent to theft, but I've still seen people pick up stuff and walk right out the gate as the clerk looks on.
FM now has many products either in locked cases or not on the shelves at all; you grab a ticket for the item and contact a clerk to get it for you. Many clothing items are now attached to the rack with a metal cable that the clerk has to unlock for you.

"When I lived in Seattle there was a McDonalds down around 2nd and Cherry. (rough area with homeless and addicts very common) It was only open 7am to 2pm."
If it's the one I used to go to before I retired, it was on 3rd and Cherry. One day I went in for lunch a little before noon and there was a man passed-out on the floor in a fetal position, clutching a half-eaten hamburger. The medics soon arrived and dealt with him.

I lived in Philadelphia and saw so many costly attempts to make things better especially in the ghettos and urban blighted areas. The good never lasts and is always trashed by the same people and politicians.

Some of these big chain stores outright contributed to the problem when they went woke. Target Korporation in particular gave money to Communist Black Lives MatterTM and should be forced to pay the communities ruined by Democrat looters, arsonists, and rioters.

Yep, the dollar stores are rural and inner city mainstays. They operate with such a low overhead they can squeeze a profit out of these neglected areas.

San Francisco...the new Detroit! No, won't happen. San Francisco has driven out much of their feral black population. And is a financial hub for the surrounding business activity like Silicon Valley to the south. Oakland can qualify as the new Detroit, struggling along after losing the Raiders and other income generating models. San Francisco has a money-making model in the medical field, with whole new neighborhoods of medical facilities.
This crime wave will get worse, but won't sink the city. The ferals flood in from Oakland and other towns east and north of the city to commit crimes, and not much can be done to stop that.

They’re gonna have to be smarter about how many people at a time can get into - and out of - the store. Keep things under lock and key.
