Lieutenant Colonel Allen West announced his candidacy to become Governor of Texas this morning in a 7-minute video that detailed his history, celebrated the heroes of the Texas Revolution, and using comparisons to the Alamo, urged Texans to join him on the “right” side of the “line in the stand” with their vote.
“Now it is our time, it is our time to stand up and honor those words of Texas, Our Texas, and to secure the future for our children and our grandchildren, to make sure the growth, the opportunity, and the prosperity, the economic success that you see here in Texas, continues on,” said West, after exploring the Republic of Texas’s rich history of volunteers and politicians who came from other states. West, who was born in Georgia and attended the University of Tennessee noted that over 30 men from Tennessee were among the early leaders of the Republic of Texas, and those who fought at the Alamo.
“That means that we stay energy independent, and we fuel America, so that we’re not dependent on other nations – other nations that are our enemies,” said West. “To make sure that we secure our borders, to make sure that Texas is for Texans.” West added, “We cannot live in a state that is the number one state for human and sex trafficking in the United States of America. That’s not how we protect our children and our legacy.” West then suggested Texas needs modern heroes to match those of the Texas Revolution.

Won't know until it is over and it is no small matter who Trump endorses.
I don’t think West has a chance either, but I am voting for him. Abbot showed his true self during the china virus, and then his lack of response to the border until now is inexcusable.
Abbot hasn’t decided if he wants the support of the establishment or the people because he needs the money from the establishment. West has chosen correctly. When it comes to a fight, Abbot will not be there for us. He showed that all last year.
I think Abbott has done a great job. That said, I will always vote for the more conservative candidate.
Abbott has been terrible with the China Virus. He is somewhat conservative, but gets squishy really easy. Allen West is much better.
Well, this is why he quit as state party chairman. I hope the next chairman isn’t a douche.
Curious choice to run, Abbot did knuckle under and do a mask mandate for a bit, but he doesn’t exactly seem ripe for defeat.
I’m baffled as to why people are demanding he not do this and run against Sen. Cornyn instead. Cornyn isn’t up until 2026, so Col. West could run for a term as Governor and then run for Senator afterwards (perhaps some here are confused and think Cornyn is up in 2022, which would account for some legit concern).
Gov. Abbott really has no legit and overarching reason to run for a 3rd term, especially when there are countless Republican Conservatives waiting to step up. If you can’t get done (in a state like this) what you wanted to in 8 years, it’s time to let someone else step up and have a go. Besides, I doubt West is running to serve as Governor for 20 years. We know he’s after the Presidency before long, probably for 2028 (presuming Trump goes again in 2024).
Anyone who doesn’t know who Charles “THE HAMMER” Martel, Duke and Prince of the Franks is, has had their education of Western History sadly neglected!
Logic fail
Two years ago I thought Abbott would our first openly handicapped president. (FDR hid it, and demanded that reporters never show or speak of his polio). But Abbott handled the lockdowns badly, and was really slow clamping down on Austin & other homeless anti-cop meccas.
However, I don’t think this is very wise on West’s part. There are not enough GOP dissenters to oust Abbott in a primary. I’d give him a B- as governor, compared to DeSantis A+ and Noem a B+. Compared to morons like DeWeenie and Douchey, Abbott is a rock star. Compared to DeSantis, he’s the opening act.
Just had friends that moved there about 3 years ago ironically they kinda keep me up on the local doings there
Even Rick Perry joked about Austin on Jimmy Kimmel so this is hardly a new thing
Texas can have the carpetbagger. No good will come of this move.
Cause they like Abbott and don’t GaF about term limits? Don’t see West’s rationale for running?
I’d figure West is a big underdog here, Trump is with Abbott, he has 77% approval among Republicans. A decisive loss doesn’t help West’s career. The winner being bloodied up for the general (not high risk but you can’t call Texas safe anymore) doesn’t help anything.
Isn’t he giving up the hard won chairmanship to probably lose? Abbott hasn’t been perfect (nor is he Perry) but I’m not feeling this as a smart move just cause “time for a change” or personal ambition. Seems more like a ticket back to obscurity after finally getting back into a political position.
As a potential carpetbagger I won’t fault him for being a recent Texan though.
I’m supporting West. I have had enough of Abbott.
I think Abbott has had some serious missteps as of late, proving that I think it’s time for him to step aside.
As much as like Allen West, I don’t think this is a good idea. What do we get with West that we do not get with Abbott? With the possbility of Matthew McConaughey running, we should not be infighting like this.
There were some irregularities in the race but he should have been re-elected in that district.
Actually that IS his way.
Notice he never spoke in support of trump either during election stealing. He’s vying for 2024. Setting himself up. He is not trustworthy
