Congressional leaders urge FCC to perform equity audit
The Associated Press ^ | By KAT STAFFORD

Congressional leaders and a media advocacy group are urging the Federal Communications Commission to examine how policy decisions and programs have disparately harmed Black Americans and other communities of color, according to a letter sent Tuesday to the acting FCC chair.

In the letter, first shared with The Associated Press, Democratic Reps. Jamaal Bowman of New York, Yvette Clarke of New York, and Brenda Lawrence of Michigan along with Media 2070 said the FCC should conduct an assessment to “address and redress” the harm the agency’s policies and programs have caused Black and brown communities and identify the “affirmative steps the agency commits to taking to break down barriers to just media and telecommunication practices.”

A lack of diversity and representation has long been a concern for media advocates and experts who argue that racism permeates the nation’s media industry, partly because of historical exclusionary policies and regulations that have made it hard for Black Americans and others to control and shape news coverage and other forms of media in communities across the nation.

Media 2070, an initiative created by the Black caucus of the nonpartisan organization Free Press, has called for media reparations for the Black community and the FCC letter is part of its efforts. Earlier this month it delivered a petition to 3,000 newsrooms across the country, urging news outlets to “dismantle anti-Black racism in the media, trust Black journalists and care for Black communities.”

I guess there are not enough ‘urban stations’ in Saginaw Michigan?

While you’re at it, find out the last time a late night show had on a conservative Republican politician. If you’re going for diversity, how about holding their feet to political diversity?

And you can only rarely hear Spanish spoken on the radio...

Blacks are represented at an EXTREMELY disproportionate amount to their percentage of the population. Everything from historical dramas where blacks were not present and definitely not present in positions of authority to every commercial. If a fair audit is done then we would see a severe paring back of blacks represented in media.

Maybe they can investigate how certain Democrat favored groups are consistently over represented in the Media?

I don’t know about that but I do know there is one “urban station” based in Columbia, SC you can pick up statewide. Not so with all the other stations.

Obviously their mission is to determine that all the media are biased, and that therefore reparations must be paid for ever afterwards.

Most of the women in commercial after commercial wear Afros; this is presumably so we know they are Black and not Hispanic or Chinese or something. I’m sick of this pandering to 13% of the population and sick of the pandering to the 0.01 percent that are gay or otherwise mentally ill.

Black black black black black black black!

Commercial after commercial, ad after ad, celebrity after celebrity, news story after news story, article after article, over and over and over.

Black black black black black black black black black black...ad nauseam.

87% of Americans are now inundated about the 13% blacks. And we see a lot of how blacks behave — childishly, meanly, hurtfully, sinfully.

It will not end well for blacks.

Maybe progressives and Democrats really agree with Margaret Sanger, and hope the reaction to all this shit will cull the black herd. Got to wonder.

They give Al Sharpton, a known bigot, his own program. They are scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to credible voices.

The thing that pisses me off about Sharpton is he is almost always on the wrong side of the issue, from Tawana Brawley to the Duke Five and he imposes enormous costs on the innocent that he tramples over. And when it’s shown he’s dead wrong, the MSM lets him get away with it and he doesn’t even apologize.

He’s never had a church, never had a congregation, never attended divinity school, but uses “Rev” as a title. Fact is, he was “ordained” at age 10 by a DC preacher and has continued the lie ever since. He a complete phony.

Is the difference in percentage of folks of different races who don’t own telecommunications or media companies statistically different?

Find any disparity in services and try your best to correlate it to race, but ignore all such things as location, income level, proximity to other services, demand, housing standards or criminality.

They want to cancel conservative talk radio and TV hosts such as Tucker.
