CNN contributor Van Jones reacted with emotion Friday on “Newsroom” to the 22-and-a-half year sentence of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.
Discussing how with good behavior, Chauvin is likely to serve closer to 15 years, Senior legal analyst Elie Honig said, “Justice is imperfect. This is a serious sentence. Derek Chauvin will be in prison for 15 years. He’s 45 now until he’s 60. That said, I think this is light. I think the judge should’ve sentenced him more. Minnesota guidelines say you can double the 15 years if there is one aggravator. This judge found four aggravators and didn’t really come super close to doubling it.”
Jones said, “Very disappointing, very disappointing 15 years, I know people doing 15 years for victimless crimes of drug possession. Very disappointing the level of any one of those aggravators. What this man did, it should’ve been the maximum of the maximum. This is disappointing. I don’t think it’s going to cause outrage. But it’s a punch in the gut. This guy’s life is worth more than 15 years. It was. What that officer did is worth more than 15 years. Law enforcement across the country should look at something like this and say, look, you can’t do this type of stuff. You’re never going to come back home. It’s disappointing.”
When Honig pointed out there were two federal indictments still pending against Chauvin, Jones said, “The feds can come in and do more, and they should do more because this is not justice.”

Commie Van Jones deserves far worse than a punch in the gut.
And I saw no murder being committed in those videos.
No amount of pandering will ever be enough. Nothing will ever satisfy them.
victimless Floyd crimes??
Frequently reported (but leftists hope to wish it away in vague denials):
” George Floyd held a gun to a pregnant woman’s belly in 2007 while her home was invaded ... .”
Is there an appeal going in?
Yes it is- he got 22.5 years in prison because of a useless piece of crap overdosing on drugs.
SPJNK.
This was not justice, just politics in a courtroom.
Chauvin is probably not guilty of anything, let alone second degree murder. If there was no black crime wave, there would be no George Floyd “incidents” to report.
And let’s be frank, this man was no saint. The difficulty of restraining this crime wave is being used as a pretext for removing the police from the scene, which is obviously going to make the crime wave far worse.
Apparently “white supremacy” in some minds is the natural desire to protect one’s life and property from thugs.
And communism is a serious offence too, that might be worth 22.5 years.
I agree with one exception...
“Chauvin did absolutely nothing wrong”
...sorry, when somebody is in cuffs they’re in YOUR CUSTODY and there’s a responsibility to their safety and how they are treated. Chauvin was deliberately causing pain - this is unethical. Was it murder? No. Was it how somebody should be treated? No. When four cops have you handcuffed, face down on a road, this was completely unacceptable.
Dog whistle to antifa and BLM to wreck stuff
Sentences for second degree murder vary from state to state and depend on circumstances. In Minnesota the maximum is 40 years, and the recommended sentence for someone with no previous convictions and no aggravating circumstances is 12.5 years (if my sources are accurate and I read them right). To give Chauvin a longer sentence would have meant convicting him of first degree murder.
It's hardly victimless.
Jones demands lynching, like they did in the old days’.
MSNBC with Joy Reid and her psychopath guests are equally as bad. Always raging at whitey.
Nowadays, people go to jail when they support the wrong political party, not just if they commit crimes. The Revenge Racist Woke SJW’s certainly want to make an example of Chavin, and Van Jones is no exception. But the crime of murder is being wholesale ignored if not forgiven if you are seen as an oppressed minority, with the exception of Jews or Asians.
It is not justice the Woke want, which they wouldn’t understand if it were explained with diagrams. It is “tribal points”, childish and destructive, as they all compete for their Dystopian Emmy for “Best Media Performance by a Wokester”. The renowned Dystopianist Michael Eric Dyson is up for “Best Performance by a Psuedointellectual” for his indecipherable explanation of CRT and its implications for white people.
Sometime later in the year, they will all convene at the next “Psychoticon” convention, and they can all have a big laugh. Keynote speaker this year will be Mad Maxine Waters, as she recounts her efforts towards burning down all of American Civilization.
Can Jones is right - this IS a punch in the gut.
22.5 years for doing his job?
They went over that in the court case, which is why I suggested listening or reading what his defense put forth. You never let a suspect not be under control, too many copeople have died because they wanted to ‘give the guy a break. The defense did a stellar Job of explaining g why they had to keep hi. Pinned until the ambulance got there and could secure him with straps. Even passed out perps can suddenly come to, and kill the cops or bystanders In Their drugged out state
Yes, the judge denied him a retrial before the sentencing, but there will be an appeal. He is an innocent man going to prison because jurors and judges and everyone I volved e afraid of the mob. O ly his lawyer wasn’t afraid.
I agree. In most of Texas, Chauvin would have literally been given a medal for doing his duty as a cop. So, the only thing Chauvin is guilty of is a poor career choice in an Uber Liberal State.
I think ALL COPS should quit in mass in Minnesota and head south. In so doing, the libs dominating Minnesota politics will overnight discover the true meaning of the word “militia” in the 2nd Amendment.
Just picture a Liberal Professor taking on a badass thug in a dark alley with a nothing but a billy club.
Pinned until the ambulance got there and could secure him with straps.
