Joseph Bolanos was a pillar of his community. President of his Upper West Side block association for the past 23 years, he looked out for his neighbors during the pandemic. He dropped off masks and kept extra heaters in his rent-controlled apartment for seniors. He raised morale with a weekly street dance to show his support for essential workers.
A Red Cross volunteer after the 9/11 attacks, the 69-year-old security consultant once received a police commendation for heroism after saving a woman from being mugged.
Unmarried, and caring for his 94-year-old mother, he was a well-loved character in the quiet residential area.
But now his neighbors think he is a domestic terrorist.
Yes, he attended then-President Donald Trump’s rally in Washington, DC, on Jan. 6, but he never entered the Capitol. He was in a friend’s room at the JW Marriott a 30-minute walk away when the Capitol breach occurred.
Nonetheless, he was raided in February by the FBI anti-terrorism task force, handcuffed, paraded and detained for three hours while his apartment was ransacked and all his devices confiscated. Four months later, he hasn’t been charged and doesn’t have his devices back, but his neighbors are shunning him, and he’s had two strokes from the stress.
“It’s destroyed my reputation,” he says. “I’m not a violent invader . . . I do not condone the criminality and violence on [Jan. 6] whatsoever.”
The FBI told Bolanos he was raided because of a tip to the Jan. 6 hotline from a neighbor who said he had overheard him “boasting” about being at the Capitol.
An FBI agent phoned Bolanos the Sunday after the riot and left a message. He returned the call the next day, but never heard back.

An NBC camera crew had been tipped off and was there to film his shame. NBC quoted “sources” saying charges against him were imminent. The story would be repeated in two local publications.

The FBI. America’s Gestapo.
Anyone?
Anyone?
No one believed we could vote Trump in.
Voting with their feet now is looking like finding another country. This place has slipped under the waves. If we have slipped to the point of arresting everyone who was near the capital at a rally because someone “said” they boasted of being there we have been sunk. We even have a nitwit leader who threatens adversaries with nuclear weapons. What a joke the republic has become.
I lived on the Upper West Side for years…in fact, I grew up there. There are some conservatives, but notice that even in the article, it mentions that this man is “discreet” about it. In other words, you have to keep it quiet if you want to get along with your neighbors (such as the one who “turned him in”).

Sort of like being a Jew in Germany in the 1920’s. One best keep quiet about it for fear of a neighbor turning you into the Gestapo (or FBI, in today’s world).
“Eff the neighbors. They’re the problem”
Yup. Snitches need stitches.
Maybe it’s time to flip the liberal shxt back on them. Turn in liberal neighbors for hate crimes and terroristic threats.
You feel threatened by gay pride and BLM flags
Your neighbor is whiter than you and seems threatening
You saw someone wave hi but know it was a racist threat sign
There’s a much large list of course ....
From the article:
‘They also had a search warrant, issued by District Court Judge Gabriel Gorenstein, which named Bolanos as the “target subject.” The front door of his empty apartment was being broken down in a simultaneously raid.
The warrant authorized the federal agents to seize his property as evidence relating to crimes including “obstruction of Congress,” “civil disorders,” “conspiracy to impede/assault federal agents,” “interstate travel to participate in riot,” and “unlawful entry on restricted buildings or grounds.”’
And it’s not just on the Upper West Side. I think many of us here, in fact, probably live in environments where we’ve found it best to be “discreet.” The left is ruthless.
The thing I’ve observed about leftists is that it really doesn’t matter how nice you are to them or how long you’ve known them.
It’s why so many were turned in by relatives and friends in China, Russia and Germany. America is no different.
The FBI went to my friend’s house. She organized 7 busses that went to DC on Jan 6.
EXTREMIST!

No, we will not be able to vote our way out of this.
The advantage of a normal (Republican) president, is that he wouldn’t sic the fbi on innocent citizens like this. But the fbi is through and through corrupt and full of hate for this country, and so would continue to target patriots for persecution, though on a lesser scale.
It is the “special agent” who swore out the affidavit lying to the judge. That is the guy to sue. Sue him personally, get discovery on the snitch neighbor and sue the snitch for Swatting
Sad to say, but Stasi is starting to look more and more like an accurate label for the FBI and other “law enforcement” agencies right here in the USA.
“ Its most powerful law-enforcement arm, the fbi, has been turned into an instrument of persecution”
Sorry but this sentence is incorrect. The “fbi” (I too will not capitalize), from its inception has been not only an “instrument of persecution” but also a corrupt organization of the highest order.
He wasn’t
Discreet enough.
.
Sad.
I wonder when enough is enough.
I no longer recognize my country.
FBI is a criminal organization. Defund this State sponsored Stasi.
Eff the neighbors.
Even Hamilton Burger wouldn't have touched this one.
