IIRC at least some late model cars have black boxes here in the US. I've read that data from these boxes have been used in court cases.Unlike some people I'm a very conservative driver.Speed control set at the speed limit...right lane on the interstate...and I don't drink at all. If I ever collide with another car I want the cops to be able to see how fast we were both going...among other things.

That goes back to *2000* because of liability lawsuits. They save between 5 seconds to 2 minutes plus worth of parameter data (just like an aircraft’s flight data recorder) prior to airbag deployment.
