Residents in cities across the country are receiving $500 per month payments as part of a no-strings-attached experimental universal basic income program....
...places from Compton, California, to Richmond, Virginia, are trying out pilot guaranteed income programs as researchers hope the results give them a fuller picture of what happens when a range of people are sent payments that guarantee a basic living, AP reported. ...
...Center for Guaranteed Income Research co-founder Stacia West, who is evaluating more than 20 similar pilot programs, is interested in seeing how spending compares to cities like Stockton, California, where more than a third went for food.
...The program would likely be funded by an increase in income taxes across all income levels.
To pay every adult and child in the United States a yearly income of £8,045 ($10,000) per year, the government would likely have to cut most non-health social spending programs and raise the share of GDP collected in tax by ten per cent....
...Another suggestion is a negative interest rate, that would take a percentage of every citizen's bank account each month.
A universal basic income in the United Kingdom that would give every adult and child £12,000 ($14,900) per year requires a negative interest rate of 2.5 percent per month, according to the Centre for Welfare Reform.
So, if a person were to have £5,000 ($6,600) in his or her bank account at the beginning of the month, by the end, £4,884 ($6,500) would be left because £116 ($153) would be taken by the government for a universal basic income pot....

In a couple of years that’ll buy a loaf of bread.
More hyperinflation, all for more money to buy China-made products with.
That’s where cash and gold are these days. Not sure the cash will be worth much though.
This is what will happen:
Detroit Man Wins $30K Lottery, Spends $20K on Chain, Has It Snatched
Ssuch an income would intensify poverty. A single elderly/retired person couldn’t make ends meet on $500/month.
“Another suggestion is a negative interest rate, that would take a percentage of every citizen’s bank account each month.”
Beware the digital wallet, cryptocurrency government controlled economy.
So the government gets people dependent on universal basic income and what happens when they decide to pull the plug on the money?
What are all those dependent on that income going to do?
Idiot.
Absolutely, but this is what many people do when they get money and why they remain poor. He has no clue that it was an incredibly stupid waste of a valuable resource.
“ They don’t care one whit if it causes the USA to go bankrupt or plunge into financial ruin.”
Exactly correct.
During the Great Depression Democrats had a supermajority in local, State and Federal seats for most of that time.
It worked out pretty well for them.
In a way soc sec does that. It is a fixed income and if your total income is above a set amount you pay 15% of your Soc Sec back to IRS. Lucky us we get to keep 85% of the SS. I bet their has been government programs studying the spending of SS over the years. And has lead to this new taxation scheme. Plotted for all instead of a few.
USA in 2040 will be something unimaginable to today’s standards.
And it’s exactly why even if somehow, we could start everyone off on equal footing financially and gave them all the exact same income per month, within a year, some would be rich and some would be flat broke
Assumimng there even IS a USA in 2040.
We may have been swallowed up by China or Russia, then renamed.
My very first thought.
I haven’t seen anyone post this yet but we had a little experiment with universal basic income due to COVID-19 unemployment insurance so we are having widespread labor shortages. Unless we are able to automate, this is what we will see happening....serious inflation and labor shortages.
USA 2021 is, frankly, totally unimaginable back in 1970, 1980 or even 1990.
We have a major party completely dedicated to the destruction of our country.
I think some here are missing the point. This payment scam is on top of any money you may already have coming in from a job, welfare check, Retirement check.
True!
