In 1966 Mississippi, I was a four year old boy who got stuck in a bunch of briars while wandering around in the field. A couple of black kids pulled me out of it, then took me to their grandmother. I was so scared that I was crying the whole time (not because they were black, but because I was four years old and lost).

Anyway, the grandmother heard me say something about "Mrs. Simmons", a white lady up the hill who babysat us when mom went shopping on Wednesdays. She knew Mrs. Simmons and drove me up to her. I think what happened was that Mrs. Simmons and this old black lady somehow knew each other and knew that she would take care of me. I don't remember the age of the black lady, but I did know that Mrs. Simmons was born around 1880 or so. Mrs. Simmons got me back to my house.

There was a lot of racial discrimination and hatred during Jim Crow. However, there was also a lot of love between people.

so many of these types of stories. I have thought of writing a book about beautiful stories. Had I written one 20 years ago, it might have been perceived with some appreciation and insight. Not now. We are so racially divided. Not of our making, mind you, but Obama etal have ruined any harmony we had.

I’m older than you and lived more of it...six years worth but those were a big six years ...I remember it all well

The klan was disliked by most whites..a vast majority

That said they didn’t want their kids mixing too much

And they distrusted black culture cause they saw it up close

Even before civil rights great society they saw black culture for what it was

Problematic for whites

Especially in the delta and black belt .....but especially the delta or like Claiborne or Fayette counties

Virtue signalers wished whites to hand over the keys

Were their fears justified?

I think they were and I came from a pro civil rights family ...insofar as equal rights.....and I saw first hand the dangers of refusing to join the Citizens Council...

Which is not the Conservative Council or Citizens from St Louis ...

I saw first hand Vernon Dahmers home burned....and the Schmitt contractors on pecan park
In Jackson

The klan were bloody bumpkins and really the third installment ....reconstruction klan which I am sympathetic to......yankee klan of Wilson era of which I’m ignorant of....and the Sam Bowers Beckwith bunch which I detested

My folks didn’t want a black daughter in law either

That’s racist today u know...

All that sound and fury and good intentions .....distant turn out too good

It’s funny the blacks who suffered appreciated white outreach

Three generations later they hate us...

Many do and younger middle class urban white kids hate us too and themselves

I call it a disaster frankly

Btw

This forum is as usual awash in south bashers breast beating from ignorance...lofty virtue signaling meets let’s throw southerners under the bus

Like that will safe the woke attacks on neocons and GOPe

Not
