In the race for the 2022 GOP nomination to be the attorney general of Texas, the incumbent is being investigated by the state bar association — and it may not hurt him. His main opponent is the grandson of one president who called Texas home and the nephew of another — and it may not help him.
The incumbent attorney general is Ken Paxton, and his challenger is Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush (son of Jeb, nephew of George W, grandson of H.W.).
Republican strategist Jeff Roe calls the looming showdown between the two "the Holy War of Texas."
"We haven't seen a battle like this since the siege at the Alamo," Roe, who ran Sen. Ted Cruz's 2016 presidential campaign, told Politico.
Paxton is a loyal Trump supporter and minor MAGA star, thanks to his role as an architect of a multistate legal effort to prevent the certification of the 2020 presidential election. He is facing a number of public scandals, including a 5-year-old indictment for securities fraud and an FBI investigation for corruption, which led to, among other things, the abrupt firing of some of Paxton's top aides last year.
Bush, the heir apparent to his family's political dynasty, is trying hard to distance himself from his family elders' public chilliness toward former President Donald Trump, to whom a significant portion of the Texas GOP electorate remains loyal.
Bush believes a change in the state AG's office is long overdue.

Make the Bushes get real jobs again!
Yeah, and?
I’ll go with dubya’s mother on this one.
We don’t need another bush.
And little jebbie ignored her...
Bush...*SPIT*
“His grandfather was also a consistent supporter of Ronald Reagan, until Reagan was gone, and then we needed a “kinder, gentler” America.”
His Grandfather was an antagonist of Reagan who was seeking the GOP POTUS nomination himself. During the primary fight, George H. W. Bush came up with the phrase “voodoo economics” to dismiss Reagan’s Laffer-fueled supply-side economics bent. George H. W. Bush was also weak on pro-life issues if memory serves. Reagan chose him as his VP for purposes of the General Election ticket to firm up overall party support knowing that Bush’s base was the very Republican establishment that was his main antagonist. Everyone knew at the time that George H. W. Bush, party man that he was, was swallowing his personal contempt for Reagan in order to serve in the VP candidate and then the VP roles.
Never said that. Fake news.
No more Bushes….they are all Deep State….period. Grandpa ran on the Reagan doctrine and the raised taxes and let the dims run over the whole country for his 4 years. Uncle ran as a Reagan guy and condemned Newt and other conservatives…Jeb was flushed out early and we got McLame/Mittens. Thankfully after those two idiot deep staters we got the Donald! Now they are trying to repackage the same con job…no thanks!
I, too, am skeptical however, it is possible to favor someone your family doesn’t support. I have a hard time seeing myself fully support a Bush. Wonder what Jeb and GWB think of GP’s support for Trump?
Political dynasty’s have a nasty habit of hiding past (bad/poor) performance... George P. is a lttle too close to the bone to not raise concerns.
And... blood is thicker than water.
Glad to hear it - thanks for the correction.
So did we. Never again.
So did we. Never again.
Was George P. MAGA before or after the Alamo debacle? Stay out of the bushes!!!
I love Reagan - but yes - choosing Bush was a major mistake! So was choosing Sandra Day O’Connor.
He just stated the Nov 3 election wasn’t stolen.
He’s not qualified for AG. And I’d never trust him. Plus he’s a Bush.
I’d bet that they told him to do what you have to do, say what you have to say to get elected. The end justifies the means.
You’re right. Never trust a Bush.
I’m gonna paraphrase Nancy Reagan. “Just say no...to George P. Bush.”
Bush league to the core.
Incumbent Ken Paxton is the Texas AG who filed the federal election fraud lawsuit against the swing states who cheated. That’s why the Bushes put a political vendetta out against him. Baby Bush has never, and will never, get a single vote from this Texas conservative. The only thing Baby Bush ever did of note is to confiscate operation of the Alamo from from the Daughters Of The Republic Of Texas and give it to the State bureaucracy. Then he ran it into the ground.
