When Brains Go Woke and Brawn Goes Bust

I am a scientist, living in a beautiful little town that is home to a fine university with a good medical school and a football program that teeters toward excellence. These two programs have many traits in common and some marked differences. Together, they make a useful paradigm to explore and understand two unfolding events, one of which is tragic and the other almost comical.

The football program seeks and recruits the best players from the best high school programs. Recruits have been assessed for their mental toughness, speed, agility, and pure brute strength. They have been supported by a legion of parents, coaches, and friends. Their ability to stiff-arm a free safety, sack a quarterback, and win the battle of defensive or offensive lines, not to mention throw, kick, or catch a football, confers advantages, but acquiring a deep academic understanding of the history of zone blocking advances their playing career not a bit. Recruits who are accepted by our football team will play at least some college games, and a small handful (1.6% nationally) of the best college players will be drafted into the National Football League.

The football program emphasizes brawn over brains. On its face, this brawn is unequally distributed between races: Blacks are overrepresented in the NFL by a factor of five, and Asians underrepresented by a factor of 50.

Rush Limbaugh predicted the demise of the NFL quite a few years ago. I think it was around the time that concussions first became an issue. He was remarkably prescient.

So, the NFL and AMA have both gone woke. Is there a trustworthy, non-woke sociologist around that can comment on organizational behavior? Seems to me that a lot of large organizations continuously move towards the left. Take the Republican Party for example and compare it what it was 50 years ago. Maybe large organizations going woke has nothing to do with great athletes (NFL) and great minds (AMA). There certainly not a brain trust in the Republican Party and I need not comment on the GOPs testosterone levels.

Why does the author consistently capitalize the word “black”?

And yet “white” is not capitalized.

Another precursor to genocide. The importance of one race. The unimportance of the other.

There has been a progressive conservative split in the GOP since its inception. In 1872, liberal Republicans opposed to President Grant's Reconstruction policies ran Horace Greeley as a Presidential candidate. In 1912, Theodore Roosevelt, opposed to President Taft's conservatism, ran as the Presidential candidate of the Progressive, or Bull Moose Party. Going back to 50 years ago, Nixon was an extreme disappointment to conservatives, and John Ashcroft challenged him in the primaries. In 1971, the Republican Party had plenty of RINOs: Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney, Hugh Scott, et. al., who were as liberal as today's crop of Assistant Democrats.

If the AMA is right in its current stance on equity, the NFL will have to compensate every Black player whose intelligence falls below that of the average college-educated male. In the face of the enormous present cost and future liability involved, the NFL will cease to exist as we know it.

As a taxpayer completely uninterested in football as it is now played—with obvious extreme physical risks to all professional players and those who wannabe—the death of the NFL seems to me the best overall solution.

I'm tired of being taxed for big stadiums, as well. I'm not impressed with the rule-bending the universities do, and the way they pad their fees to recruit and support these potential multi-millionaires with very poor civic manners:
