PORTLAND, Ore. — The indictment of a Portland police officer for excessive use of force is drawing reaction from those in the city's protest community.
"The initial reaction is that it's good news," said Solamon Ibe, who's affiliated with the group Rose City Justice. "It is pretty big as far as the precedent that it has the potential to set for future cases that are similar."
Ibe believes the decision by a grand jury is a direct result of relentless demonstrations.
"I could not overstate the importance of this past year and the amount of just civil action and the amount of education that people have been receiving," Ibe said.
Najee Gow, a Black Lives Matter protester, says the indictment is a positive step but also a very small one.
"These are cookie crumbs, that's what's being said," said Najee. "These are cookie crumbs; we've been out here for a year."
"How many videos have we seen of officers constantly, violently attacking protesters standing up for African Americans?" said Gow.
Daryl Turner, the executive of the Portland Police Association, stood by the officer, Corey Budworth, and his training. He said the indictment was a political move for Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt.

One reason you never back down if your motivation is only to appease them. They are the ultimate “give ‘em an inch and they’ll take a mile” crowd.”
Give them a mile and soon they own the territory and you are a homeless beggar in your own land.
Portland will get better when the population does what the leftists have now prevented the police from doing.
Period.
Mob rulê
“ Ibe believes the decision by a grand jury is a direct result of relentless demonstrations.”
Silly me. I thought a Grand Jury was supposed to look at the facts and stuff.

All police should withdraw from Portland and just watch from far away.
Wouldn’t it be great if some of the people who are burning the city down were charged? Maybe just one?
A city with a “protest community” gets what’s coming to them.
All police should withdraw from Portland and just watch from far away.
They won’t and that’s exactly why I have zero sympathy for blue city/state cops.
Throw crap at them and treat them like crap. Something bad happens and you call them and expect them to show up. I feel bad for normal people in Portland.
I think the police are leaving policing to the mob, both through retiring and being in no hurry to answer calls. Who can blame them?
Resist arrest and die..... thgat’s the ticket
There is no right to resist arrest
It sounds like they’re trying to have it both ways. Get paid while doing very little.
Athens was a pure democracy. Athens failed when the riff raff gained control
Portland has already failed and will get worse
Kinda like what they did in South Africa and constantly try to do in Israel.
“All police should withdraw from Portland and just watch from far away.”
and respond to all calls for help with the MLRS response team: zoom, boom
“..It sounds like they’re trying to have it both ways. Get paid while doing very little....”
That’s normal for leftists everywhere.
“...I feel bad for normal people in Portland...”
I think that might be an oxymoron.
Anyone that was ‘normal’ probably left a long time ago.
