Report: California ‘Fully Re-Opens’ with Many Restrictions Still in Place

Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom held a press conference to mark the June 15 reopening of the state after months of harsh lockdown protocols during the coronavirus pandemic with banners as a backdrop that read: “California Roars Back.”

Newsom told reporters that the state is following the most recent guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), but there are numerous caveats to the “fully reopened” plan.

Here are some of the exceptions, as reported by an NBC affiliate in California.

“As of June 15, California no longer requires physical distancing and allows full capacity for businesses. The state’s long-standing county tier system that determines restrictions has also been lifted, and the indoor mask mandate is no more,” KCRA 3 reported.

But here is some of the fine print:

• Businesses can still require people — vaccinated or not vaccinated — to wear masks inside.
• Fully vaccinated people still need to wear masks on public transit, including airplanes, buses, taxis and ride-shares.
• Fully vaccinated people still need to wear masks indoors in K-12 schools, child care and other youth settings, health care settings including long-term care facilities, state and local correctional facilities and detention centers, and homeless shelters, emergency shelters, and cooling centers.
• Unvaccinated people should continue to wear masks indoors at places like restaurants, movie theaters and grocery stores.
• California says it will require vaccine verification or negative coronavirus test results for indoor events with more than 5,000 people and the same restrictions for “mega events” of more than 10,000 people.
• Children 12 and younger who are not eligible for the coronavirus vaccine are like other unvaccinated people and must wear a mask indoors and in most public places.
• Counties in California can set their own rules and some may be stricter than state rules.

KCRA also reported that Newsom is keeping emergency powers given to him by a court “in case things go south,” according to political analyst Steve Swatt.

“If there’s a problem, for example in vaccine distribution, if there’s a problem with a new variant coming in, that he can impose new restrictions as he sees fit,” Swatt said.

I went to four stores and one restaurant in the Silicon Valley area today and NOT ONE required a mask. I still saw lots of people on the streets voluntarily wearing their diapers.

I’m visiting a relative in CA (I’m from Texas) and although the ‘mask required’ signs are up in the stores, a few people weren’t wearing masks.

I brought a clear face shield on glasses frames and no shops gave me any flak over it.

I can breathe, and any hearing impaired folks can read my lips.

Now if other folks would also wear those, then I’d be able to understand what they were saying (I’m hearing disabled & lipread).

I stopped with the masking last week. No one has said anything to me until today. The big 5 still has a requirement, so I turned around and walked out. Went to another store. But yeah, the majority of the people I saw were masked. Goes to show how much people were conditioned

I figured that once the mask mandates were lifted, people would continue to wear the masks,

They have been so conditioned to fear not wearing them that they just cannot make the mental adjustment to feeling comfortable without them.

I wonder if we’re going to be seeing people voluntarily masked up for many years yet.

We were there few weeks ago & they were so obnoxious about wearing masks. My husband pulled his down for a split second, mainly to adjust & the cashier from front of the store literally yelled..Sir, can you please wear your mask!?

I went to my local Ralph’s today. I took a mask with me in case store employees insisted but didn’t wear one. Only saw one other person bare faced. I was ready to respond to anyone objecting but no one said anything.

Mass. dropped the mandate a just before Memorial day. It is still like half the sheep wear masks in grocery stores, etc. We also still have mask wearing alone in your car.

The very worst thing, I think, is seeing impressionable high school kids walking on the sidewalks alone, in pairs, or small groups and all masked up. They have been thoroughly brainwashed.

My husband grew up in California. He's *very* happy he left decades ago (1980s). He has no desire to ever move back to CA.
