RE: Texas has no state taxes, but is well known for high property taxes.
I work for an international company and do testing of our products with customers nationwide.
One of our customers had an engineer who lived in the pleasant suburb of Plano, Texas just outside of Dallas, who came to our lab in Long Island.
During lunch, I was complimenting his state for having no state taxes and he gave the same complaint that you observed -— he had high property taxes.
I asked him how big his house was ( if he did not mind ). He said about 2,400 square feet. My house in Long Island is about 2,200 square feet.
I asked him how much he pays in property taxes a year. He shook his head and said about $6,500.
I just laughed and and asked him if he would like to know how much I paid in property taxes for my house in Long Island.... He was astonished when I told him it was nearly DOUBLE what he was paying.
Ouch.. that hurts.
The whole tax book (federal and state) needs to be burned and rewritten.
Hoover AL my 2400 Sq ft house is about $2100/years with my homestead exemption.
True. But the cops and teachers in Texas are making solid 6 figure salaries like they are on StrongIsland.
With a Suffolk PD patrolman topping out at around $110k, before OT and night differentials there’s a reason folks fly in from all over the country to take the police test. One year I think they had 80,000 folks taking the test.
I have a friend on the job there. He’s knocking down $140k, easy.
Toss in having to pay those crazy pensions for 20-30 years at least.
