How Much Longer Must We Endure the Mask?
American Thinker.com ^ | June 7, 2021 | Doris O'Brien

Not since the glove in the O.J. Simpson murder case has a piece of fabric received more notoriety and discussion than the modern mask. Even after Joe Biden shuffled up to the mic to take what was supposed to be a verbal victory lap for COVID decline, a surprising number of Americans were still reluctant to believe in the safety of "facing" the world without it.

In a contentious America whose resentments are played out publicly in the name of race, sex, social status, and political affiliation, it is perhaps not surprising that one's choice to wear or discard a mask has also given rise to controversy.

Yet even now, there are far fewer objections to wearing a mask than to getting inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccines, despite the fact that the latter has been determined virtually fool-proof and the former just about useless.

For the first time since his presidency, Biden was conspicuously mask-less as he delivered the CDC verdict to the effect that vaccinated Americans — or those who gained immunity from having had the disease — were now free, with some exceptions, to remove their masks. As he droned on, Chameleon Joe tried to transform himself from the long-dark-winter, doom-and-gloom candidate into the triumphant victor over the virus. In fact, he had the chutzpah to taunt so-called "naysayers" over whom he himself had pessimistically presided.

One would think this long anticipated good news might send compliant Americans pouring into the streets to make bonfires of their well worn masks. But perhaps due to Biden's general flip-flopping on issues, a surprising number of skeptical people — ironically, most of them Democrats — did not take him at his word.

I was in a Panda Express type hot table restaurant two days ago. Before i entered I was clutching my crumpled up mask about to put it on, then i noticed to my shock that although the server wore her mask. the two customers present were not wearing their masks!

I quietly put my balled up mask back into my pocket. It was great. No mask, just like it still was a year ago.
I wanted to blow a trumpet sound of triumph from one of those RamsHorns.

We’re pretty much done in Ohio. At first we’d see the signs saying mask if not vaccinated. Now more and more stores and restaurants don’t post anything about masks.

Never wore them in rural East Tennessee...local grocery stores didn’t enforce corporate mandates, and I didn’t shop in any ‘urban’ area that ‘masked up’...some women still wearing them, but that’s more virtual signaling and fashion statements than any fear of the ComChink flu.

Then there is the occasional one seems to think the masks are still the way to go & thinks others should too, but at the same time maintains they are staunch Republican. Wish they would decide what they really believe.

This says it very well, & for those who insist on wearing the stupid things, they still don’t seem to listen to reason as to exactly why the masks are virtually useless. If you know someone who insists on wearing one, you may as well just not even discuss it. It’s like the Ford vs Chevy thing, no definitive answers.

In Tucson, most of the stores have signs up recommending masks for the unvaccinated, but a lot fewer people are wearing them. We went to my wife’s eye doctor last week, and they weren’t requiring masks at all in the office.

Just a couple of months ago, I’d usually be the only person in the grocery store without a mask.

The left isn’t letting go of the danm mask. They use the mask mandate as a way of harassing and controlling the folks.

Indoor mask mandates have been lifted in most of the Northeastern states yet many businesses still ask you to wear them. Since May 19 (when the mandate was lifted in Connecticut), I have simply stopped wearing it altogether. Nobody has challenged me in any of the stores that still "require" them. Went into my public library maskless on Saturday morning and nobody said a thing to me (I was the only one maskless).

Many sheep continue to wear them, even in stores that have signs saying you don't have to. It's really puzzling to me but I'm thinking it's a political thing. There are a lot of Democrats here and I think they are afraid of being confused with one of those deplorable freedom-loving conservative patriots if they take it off.

Or maybe they just don't brush their teeth.

I only wear mine on my weekend restaurant job as it is required unless you are vaccinated. I refuse to vaccinate. Most aren’t wearing them in my area of Alabama (basically Montgomery area).

I'm old enough to remember the fabric, before OJ, that was notorious!

Amazing how many freepers live in seemingly blue areas. Also amazing how many follow the crowd, even if the crowd are lemmings.

In the past year and a half, I’ve worn a mask three times for about 10 minutes each in stores that insisted. I haven’t been back to those stores and won’t until they drop the mask mandate. In fact I won’t be going back to Pet Smart at all. I think the cashier was a large black man but I’m not sure. It could have been a black woman acting like a feminine black man.

Mask usage among others had been anywhere from 30% to 70% and it seemed to depend on the store I went to with walmart being the 70% at one time. There was always those of us who didn’t wear them and no one said a word about it.

Last summer, mask usage dropped off big time. Last fall, the kids went back to school mask free, no distancing.

We used this crazy technique called observation. We observed that people weren’t dropping dead en masse and that very few were getting this highly contagious virus and when they did, as long as they didn’t already have on foot in the grave, they would get over it pretty quick.

We observed that the msm was blowing things out of proportion and that just like the 5 prior years, were lying to us and trying to create a narrative more than anything.

We’re currently on vacation in SE Florida. We’ve seen a few idiots walking down the street alone with their masks on, and a woman wearing her mask and gloves while picking up food at the Taco Bell drive thru. There’s signage on the door at stores, but no one is enforcing mask usage. We haven’t worn one since we’ve been here, nor have we been asked to.

"I pretty much stopped wearing mine. "

I never wore a mask in Arkansas with the exception when going to the VA for medical issues. Then I wore the Army issue "Scarf, sun, wind, sand, and dust" face and head wrap. Everybody at the VA thought it was cool even though it only filters dust and sand particles. What fools there are in America.

In any event, donning a mask wasn't all that big a deal.

If the author of this piece can’t recognize why it WAS/IS big deal, he really shouldn’t be opining about much. If he can’t recognize the danger in the government using absolute distortions and propaganda to control almost every aspect of our lives, he’s a fool, an idiot, or both.

Hardly fool-proof. More have died from China virus vaccines than from all other vaccines combined over the last 30 years. They advertise a 95% chance of surviving a virus that from which you already have a 99+% chance of recovery.
