An intense earthquake swarm is taking place near the Salton Sea in Southern California, U.S. on June 5, 2021, starting with M2.2 at 08:05 UTC (01:05 LT).
The USGS has registered 285 earthquakes by 21:24 UTC. The swarm is still in progress and new earthquakes are being registered every few minutes, sometimes 2 or 3 within 1 minute.

3 000 people are estimated to have felt strong shaking, 9 000 moderate, and 201 000 light.
More than 1 050 people submitted 'I felt it' reports.

This website originates from good people in California airhead.
You have obviously never been there.
Have you ever seen the documentary on the Salton Sea? It is a little unnerving.
I hope Hunter is ok
Which one? I watched one, mainly about the people leaving, and read the Wikipedia article. That was plenty unnerving, I must admit.
I saw it on tv years ago- not sure but think this is it:

Also had 6- 2.4+ quakes perpendicular to the San Andreas Fault Zone, spaced equidistantly from Blythe to Tijuana through this vicinity. Area is also a Volcanic Hotspot. Salton Sea is below sea level, so if major tectonic activity occurs, the Sea of Cortez could flood the Coachella Valley from Mexico up to about Bermuda Dunes/ Palm Desert.
I received an emergency alert on my cell phone after the 5.2, later downgraded to 4.7, to be aware of shaking about to commence.
After my post above I did some more web searching. There is a lot of info. out there, much of it from the late 90’s and early 2000’s, when the situation had become critical. Sonny Bono was perhaps the most influential person pushing to try to rescue the Salton Sea, but with his premature death, it seems the efforts got lost in gov’t muck, indecision, and the usual “costs 5-10x more than the actual work involved”, much like CA’s other water problems. What a freaking disaster. :-(
