Bannon may have misspoke, but a little fact-checking could have clarified matters.
China owns $1.1t of Federal Debt. The total outstanding debt in April 2020 was about $25t and interest payments totaled $479bn. That means on a pro rata basis, the US govt pays China about $21bn in interest.
China's 2021 military budget is USD209bn though many think China's unfaked military outlays may be double that amount.
Thus, to be clear, the US federal interest payment to China covers 10% of their defense budget. That's not great, but it's not as sensational as the 100% intimation in GP's crafted syntax - The amount of money the US pays in interest payments alone on the debt pays for China’s military.
A simple email to Bannon could have clarified his intent, or some simple fact-checking could have revealed what I found out. But given GP's sloppy fact-checking etc that would likely be viewed as getting in the way of clicks.
It's almost as if GP is a cloaked lib outfit trying to make conservative look stupid.
