You are correct. The reason I speak of how the Democrats staged a successful coup lies in part with these patriots being held as political prisoners.

What are the components of a coup? Of a take over of the government?

A fraudulent election, troops in the capital, state run media, a puppet regime, and of course political prisoners.

Something more than a peaceful protest was needed to stop the coup. Had Trump invoked the Insurrection Act, and called forth the militias, I would have been in D.C. on Jan. 6th. I wasn't showing up for a mere political rally. Trump does owe those people more support than he's given them thus far. Trump's weakness is that he is overly concerned with PR rather than action. Sometimes people need to just do the right thing, and let the chips fall where they may.
