Seattle bar now requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for entry

A bar in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood is now requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for entry.

CC’s posted on its Facebook page that the new policy will take effect May 22. The post pointed to constant changing of mask directives as part of the reason for the new policy, saying the changes “caused confusion and frustration over the right thing to do.”

The bar said that the policy protects staff and everyone who chooses to enter and provides incentive to get vaccinated.

Customers have to show a copy or picture of their vaccine card with the name and date matching their legal ID to enter.

“We understand this may be inconvenient or controversial for some, but it is safer for everyone in the long run,” the post read.

Someone said that business owners would not require proof because they would not want to turn away customers.

Well, we have here a Putz who happens to be a business owner.

Could be a way to attract Karens who aren’t very smart to the bar.

But what if I choose to go there?

Why should I be denied service because of my religious beliefs?

As the Beastie Boys once said:

It's not nearly as clear as you're making out. Just as a starting point, you are not being discriminated against because of your religion itself -- which is always illegal -- but rather for certain behaviors that are barred by a policy that is applied equally to every one. Those behaviors may be dictated by your religion, That is not always illegal, and there are plenty of cases saying that. For example, lets say someone's religion forbids them from bathing, and they have tremendous body odor as a result. Should a restaurant be permitted to deny them admission, or an employer require them to eliminate that smell as a condition of being employed? Of course, and the law agrees.

Or lets say you have a religion where intravenous injections of heroin are part of the religion. Can the feds still make possession /use of heroin illegal? Of course! Same with sex with minors, or any other behavior associated with a religious belief that is part of a facially-neutral policy that has a reasonable, legitimate purpose.

It’s really cute that you think anybody gives fvc&all about “the law”.

All of that stuff you mention, is from a galaxy far, far away. Dead and gone.

Need to prepare accordingly.

This makes it easier for me to identify the places that I don’t want to patronize.

On Capital Hill where there are so many gay bars Covid should be the least of their worries.

Guess it’s the old “no shoes, shirt, shot, no service” (unless you claim biopic or ID as glbtqrxyzp) deal. Can we get a hetero cake at the gay bakery? 😉

The bar owner holds a place of Public Accomodation. As such he cannot discriminate.

What he is doing is setting himself up for one hell of a lawsuit.

I've yet to hear the theory that'll get a win for the lawsuit. Most of the religions I know of which are not permissive of vaccinations also don't permit entry into establishments which serve hard liquor.

Here another example of where the bar would be correct.

Many Sikhs carry a ceremonial knife with them at all times. It’s part of their religion.

Now let’s say a bar has a “no weapons allowed” policy. That bar would have every right to have that policy!

And so the bar denies a Sikh with a knife admittance. Has the bar discriminated against that Sikh? No. Their problem is with the knife, not with the Sikh.

This is Seattle. If for some reason you’re a conservative in the Seattle area, in what frame of mind would you have to be to frequent a local bar there full of liberals?

It’s likely this will augment business in Seattle.
