This is a silly song. Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles is jammed with traffic 24/7 (I know because I used to live there), so a drag race there, even in 1963, would have been inconceivable.
Dead Man's Curve is an abandoned switchback on Interstate 5 about a mile north of Lebec, Calif. I have actually driven on it.
