It is difficult to imagine a company the size of Colonial not having manual overrides in place to by-pass attacks such as this one. Every company back in my day had contingency plans in place to counter any unknown and unforeseen problems which might arise.
There are (should be) written procedures for that.

I read that a lot of game companies contract with Eastern European & Russian contract programmers. In my mind instant industrial security problem. However their rates are so cheap the “suits” think its worth the risk. I guess it is the companies still make money.
