The IRS is falling behind in processing millions of income tax returns, potentially delaying refunds for many Americans.

According to the Taxpayer Advocate Service, an independent arm of the IRS focused on tax filers' rights, the agency is holding almost 31 million returns for manual processing just ahead of the May 17 tax filing deadline. That backlog has grown by 2 million returns since mid-April, National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins told CBS MoneyWatch.

"I was hoping it would go down, but I'm not that optimistic," she said of the logjam. "Taxpayers will continue to experience unusually long delays. I don't think anyone wants to hear that, but that is the case."

“File married 0, and owe 1k. File single 0 and get 1k back.

Don’t you mean you claim Married 0 dependents on W-4 for withholding and when filing your IRS Form 1040 you claimed single with 0 dependents?

With Biden’s devaluing money with his spending sprees, he needs every penny he can get right now.

Hence the need to slow-walk your money back to you...

The delay is not a product of ineptitude but of intentional slow walking the processing of returns. This extends the time the government has to use your interest free loan.

Filed our Fed return March 30...no refund yet. I filed my mother’s return before “porkulus/stimulus #3” (that really screwed up the IRS...new rules for certain tax credits and etc.) and she got hers in 2 weeks.
