They THINK they’re ready, but they’re not, and end up losing.
Part of Germany’s problem was that they bit off more than they could chew. They got involved in multi-front wars when that wasn’t really necessary. And America is kinda doing the same thing today. We’ve just got to be involved everywhere, all the time.
If you had told George Washington that someday American soldiers would be fighting in Baghdad, he would have thought that you were insane.
Actually, I think Germany was quite ready, at least for WWII.
I guess the humor was lost, but my point was that the aggressor is certainly the most prepared.
Your original post made me think that unpreparedness is likely causal.
War does not happen (so much) when all sides are prepared. An aggressor waits for the victim to be off guard. Things like the Maginot Line were an idiotic kind of preparation which actually begged to be humiliated for all to see.
