Ummmm...no we did it first to them. The first cyber attacks were from us.
To: george76
Washington Post sez it was a ransomware attack. Could be anyone.

I guess someone ought to circle back to elementary national infrastructure security instead of taking kickbacks from protection money paid to our mortal enemies, out of the taxpayer’s pocket (who am I kidding, out of their great-grandchildren’s pockets, if wypipo are allowed to live and breed that long).

I’m NOT exactly a fan of our ‘intelligence’ thugs... They protect white liberal ‘elites’ and the ‘elites’ fantasies... NOT the American people.

where are all these techies who are supposed to be so smart?
just before the superbowl, Iran hit us with a virus in FL, taking over a water-treatment plant.

Busy censoring conservatives in social media, I suppose.

This pipeline runs right by me. Very comforting thought to know it’s been taken down by hackers. There better be some real answers considering I have neighbors who could have theirs home disintegrated and lives lost if there was an attack on the pipeline.
I’m likely out of any blast radius.

You ARE being sarcastic with both your comments, RIGHT?

This story is huge and should be the leading headline on every national MSM site, yet there is very little coverage.
The coverage that there is just a rehashing of the same story, I'm guessing originally from the NYTimes, but not sure.
The stories say that we shouldn't expect supply disruptions, because we are using less fuel due to the pandemic.
Even if that's true, is not losing 45% of a little less still essentially the same problem as losing 45% of a little more?
Was it Colonial that shutdown the pipeline, or was it shutdown for them?
If Colonial shut it down, why did they? Did they shut it down because they can't guarantee its safe operation?
How long is it going to be shut down? How many barrels of fuel does the Northeast Region keep on hand in their tanks? How many barrels do they use a day?
"The pipeline is frequently operating at capacity requiring Colonial to allocate space to shippers."
Currently, Colonial is owned by six companies:
Koch Industries (28.09%)
South Korea National Pension Service and KKR through Keats
Pipeline Investors (23.44%)
Caisse de depot et placement de Quebec (CDPQ) (16.55%)
Shell Pipeline (16.12%)
Industry Funds Management (15.80%)

It will be interesting times.
So much of our infrastructure is set up to be destroyed by bad software.
Genius engineers built our infrastructure. It is being destroyed by children.

Latest story I can find, and this is from last night.
“Traders and shippers are increasingly nervous about the possibility of a shortage of fuel in the eastern U.S. almost two days after the shutdown of a major pipeline following a cyberattack.”
“The lack of any update from Colonial Pipeline in more than 24 hours has become a particular source of concern in the market for oil products, which includes gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, according to people familiar the matter. Electronic trading of gasoline futures is set to resume at 6 p.m. in New York on Sunday.”

In about an hour we will find out what the markets think of it.
Gotta be state sponsored, right?
Wouldn’t ransomware hackers want to hit companies that will pay to avoid being discredited in the limelight, not critical infrastructure that the gov needs working so that nation continues to function?
