Excerpt omitted the first paragraph:

“California’s Department of Education is working on a new framework for K-12 mathematics that discourages gifted students from enrolling in accelerated classes that study advanced concepts like calculus.”

They are going to “solve” the problem of racial disparities in performance, by crippling the education of bright kids who are not rich enough to go to private schools.

The real purpose of the policy is to reduce competition for the children of elites.

That is spot-on assessment of the mission.

However, tho this likely will reduce competition somewhat, being truly “gifted” in math is not something that can be bought or learned...
