The COVID Panic Mafia's Mask Fetish Just Went Up in Flames. MIT Researchers Torched It.
Townhall ^ | 04/25/2021 | Matt Vespa

How many times have we seen it from the liberal media? They detail a large gathering, with the insufferable comment “no masks.” The mask has been the crutch for the panic peddlers, something they think offers a total shield against COVID. Wrong. It doesn’t. I wore a mask and I still contracted the virus last November. Second, the so-called experts led by Dr. Anthony Fauci and his crew have clung to mask-wearing even for those who have been vaccinated which is nothing but theater. If we go down the list, the experts have been wrong on just about everything. Contracting this virus via surfaces, masks, testing, reopening schools—you name it. They have tried to scare us into submission over a virus with a 90+ percent survivability rate, plus three vaccines. This fear circus was never going to last.

After weeks of doom and gloom about a fourth wave—it hasn’t happened. Only Michigan is seeing a serious spike, possibly because Gov. Whitmer is keeping people locked up. Staying inside is the worst thing you can do. Meanwhile, Texas has reopened fully. There is no more mask mandate—and the state hasn’t seen a spike. Oh, and this occurred over five weeks ago. Sorry, spring break didn’t create a COVID doomsday. Why? We’re probably damn close to herd immunity, though Fauci will never say that. In the meantime, the narrative from the COVID panic peddlers and the liberal media about mask-wearing and social distancing took a hit with a new MIT study that says both are worthless. Oh, and the caps on indoors occupancy are also not backed up by science and keeping windows open, fans blowing, and overall fresh air circulating is just as good as a new filtration system. In other words, teachers’ unions really have no reason to stay home anymore (via CNBC):

The risk of being exposed to Covid-19 indoors is as great at 60 feet as it is at 6 feet — even when wearing a mask, according to a new study by Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers who challenge social distancing guidelines adopted across the world.

MIT professors Martin Z. Bazant, who teaches chemical engineering and applied mathematics, and John W.M. Bush, who teaches applied mathematics, developed a method of calculating exposure risk to Covid-19 in an indoor setting that factors in a variety of issues that could affect transmission, including the amount of time spent inside, air filtration and circulation, immunization, variant strains, mask use, and even respiratory activity such as breathing, eating, speaking or singing.

Bazant and Bush question long-held Covid-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization in a peer-reviewed study published earlier this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science of the United States of America.

“We argue there really isn’t much of a benefit to the 6-foot rule, especially when people are wearing masks,” Bazant said in an interview. “It really has no physical basis because the air a person is breathing while wearing a mask tends to rise and comes down elsewhere in the room so you’re more exposed to the average background than you are to a person at a distance.”

The important variable the CDC and the WHO have overlooked is the amount of time spent indoors, Bazant said. The longer someone is inside with an infected person, the greater the chance of transmission, he said.

Opening windows or installing new fans to keep the air moving could also be just as effective or more effective than spending large amounts of money on a new filtration system, he said.

Bazant also says that guidelines enforcing indoor occupancy caps are flawed. He said 20 people gathered inside for 1 minute is probably fine, but not over the course of several hours, he said.

“What our analysis continues to show is that many spaces that have been shut down in fact don’t need to be. Often times the space is large enough, the ventilation is good enough, the amount of time people spend together is such that those spaces can be safely operated even at full capacity and the scientific support for reduced capacity in those spaces is really not very good,” Bazant said. “I think if you run the numbers, even right now for many types of spaces you’d find that there is not a need for occupancy restrictions.”

Six-feet social distancing rules that inadvertently result in closed businesses and schools are “just not reasonable,” according to Bazant.

So, the occupancy rules are garbage. Fresh air and fans are just as effective as an expensive filtration system. The six-feet apart rule is ridiculous, and masks don’t protect you all that much. So, Fauci was wrong. The experts were wrong. But they’re so arrogant they cannot admit a mistake. They’ve taken a scared straight approach. Bill Maher actually offered a biting and rational commentary on how a) liberals are just as misinformed as the people they mock regarding this virus, and b) the experts opted not to give it to us straight which set us on this messaging mess that’s plagued us for a year. Yes, Maher made a pun about Trump and bleach, but he’s a comedian and a liberal. He’s bound to make a joke—but the overall message is clear: this isn’t the time to be mixing politics with the messaging on COVID. Fauci is a bureaucrat. The CDC director is a bureaucrat. They all have agendas. And they’re not gods. They’re not oracles. They were wrong. They’ve been wrong. And now they want us to live in fear because of variants. Sorry, the variants aren’t more lethal, so again they get a shovel to the face. We’re done. And you cannot tell us what we can and cannot do on the Fourth of July, doc. Your time is up. Shut up and let us reopen at will.

Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott lead the way. Oh, and teachers now have to get back to work for real this time.

COVIDism is the left’s new religion. It’s symbol is “the mask”. It seeks the submission of ALL non-believers.
Their god is named Moloch.

I don’t care how much the MSM; the current biden administration and Dr.Fraud Fauci holler and scream about masks, I wouldn’t trust ANYTHING THEY SAY. It’s all about control and as far as I’m concerned all three can take their masks and put them where the sun doesn’t shine. I’m sick and tired of the whole bunch of them.

I’m a fat guy that wants to breath fresh air.

The mask interferes with my ability breath, so I don’t wear one.

Some of the smaller merchants in my location don’t care about masks, so I’m frequenting their establishments.

Its not about pricing for me, its about being treated like a human being

Let's inject a bit of critical analysis here.

They detail a large gathering, with the insufferable comment “no masks.”

Actually, new daily cases were below 30,000 (with a few spikes above 30k) until Jun 20, 2020. After that date, there was only one time during the summer when cases were below 30k, and daily case numbers kept rising. The BLM riots started in May, 2020. Since case growth is an exponential function, the rise in new cases is never immediate, but occurs weeks after the event driving the increase in cases. There have been several events where people did not wear masks and a surge of new cases followed; one such event was at a Republican convention.

I wore a mask and I still contracted the virus last November.

Faulty logic, since he seems to imply that masks are useless because of his experience. Masks are used to *decrease* transmission; the most effective decrease occurs when a number of measures are used. I could speculate as to how he wore a mask, whether everyone around him wore a mask, whether some people wore vented masks (which do nothing to block their exhaled viruses), what kind of material, etc. There have been plenty of studies at this point that show that masks are a very effective tool for reducing transmission of Covid-19. One paper even speculated that masks decrease the viral load such that people who catch Covid-19 despite wearing a mask don't get as sick as they would have without a mask (that topic definitely needs more study).

Second, the so-called experts led by Dr. Anthony Fauci..

Dr. Fauci was a very accomplished scientist with an impressive number of publications prior to George W. Bush appointing him as head of the NIH. He is an MD with a strong research background in infectious diseases. Why would a blogger with no scientific training consider himself more knowledgeable than someone with outstanding credentials, who has profound knowledge and experience in his field, and who is respected in the scientific community? Even more important, why would anyone believe that blogger over an actual expert?

They have tried to scare us into submission over a virus with a 90+ percent survivability rate, plus three vaccines.

Youch. He's implying an even higher death rate than the virus actually has, which is currently just over 1.7%. This shows me that he does not have a strong grasp on mathematics, to say the least. The 1.7% death rate is high enough to make Covid-19 a serious public health threat, but it's not as high as this blogger claims. In this claim, he contradicts his own premise that Covid-19 is trivial.

Staying inside is the worst thing you can do.

That all depends on the context. Staying inside your home with non-infected people does not increase your chance of catching Covid-19. But gathering in homes or other venues with large numbers of people does increase your chance. After BLM riots [outdoors] drove up new cases, they began to fall again in September. But then new cases started increasing in late October, reaching 200-300k daily in December and January--in other words, transmission was highest during the holiday season. Clearly, the "waves" of virus transmission are related to factors rooted in human behavior. (I do not like the term "waves," since it is usually used to describe seasonal behavior of a pathogen, and there is no evidence that Covid-19 is seasonal.)

Meanwhile, Texas has reopened fully. There is no more mask mandate—and the state hasn’t seen a spike.

What he fails to mention is that people are still observing social distancing and mask wearing. Texas did not go maskless just because the governor lifted the mandate. My husband and I just went shopping yesterday at a business that had posted on large signs, "This is a private business. If you do not wear a mask on this property, you are considered a trespasser!" One study showed that mask mandates increase mask use by about 1-2%. When I come across an idiot who isn't wearing a mask (or who has it pulled below his nose), I am very careful about keeping my distance. Masks are most effective when *everyone* wears one.

b) the experts opted not to give it to us straight which set us on this messaging mess that’s plagued us for a year.

Complete hogwash. The experts provided the best advice they could with very limited information. As more research was done and more was learned about SARS-CoV-2, they updated the recommendations to reflect the most current knowledge. This is not a case of withholding information, giving wrong information, or changing the story: this is a case of having to operate in the fog of war. Of course, while he tries to imply that Dr. Fauci makes up things on the fly, the reality is that he and the other experts provide advice distilled from the knowledge base of a vast community of scientists.

They tell us to “follow the science”. The science is clear. The states with the most draconian lock-down measures and mandates had worse outcomes than states that did not implement the same level of precautions.

Yes, some of this might be explained by high population density cities, but what about Hawaii? They might have been the most severe and they did not do well nor do they have the population of NYC or Chicago.

The one-size fits all approach ignored the data. It mandated that a 18 year old be viewed the same as an 80 year old obese person. It failed. It still fails and now the powers that be cannot bring themselves to admit it.

Look

I think everybody knows more about masks than they never wanted to know at this point

I am a gonna define two different kinds of people at this point

Re. masks

There’s people that like the mask ; and want to wear the mask

And people that hate the mask

can’t stand the mask

don’t want to ever have to wear a mask

unless they have to

Smoke ; particles ; dust ; pollution ; chemicals ; hospital

This is America - the land of the free ; and the home of the brave

Adults can make up their own mind how safe they want to be

vis-à-vis virus transmission

Ok ? Are we cool now

The fact that you call people who refuse to be sheep “idiots” is an indication of a lack of character on your part.

You are a brainwashed sheep and an ignorant cultist. You are a “Branch Covidian”. Own it.

I never thought that I would see the day when a large number of disturbed people would actually worship a damn virus and suffocating, dehumanizing face diapers.

If your cult had its way, everyone would be forced, at gun point, to wear face diapers and lockdown for the rest of our lives. All over a freaking virus with a 99.7% survival rate.

You will forgive me for not trembling with fear over a virus with such a high survival rate. I haven’t changed my lifestyle over this insanity, nor will I ever do so. I possess something called an “Immune System”, and it’s extremely powerful.

And, no, I won’t be getting your “holy” vaccine. You and your fellow cult members are free to get the jab. If any Branch Covidian attempts to harass me over the face diapers or the vaccine, they will be eating their face diaper.

I admit that it’s very amusing to watch the Branch Covidians virtue signal after receiving the jab, as if they are saving lives by receiving the “sacred” vaccine. You have saved absolutely no one.

Unlike you, I don’t go around insulting people who do wear face diapers or who receive the jab. They are free to do as they please. I realize that some people are more susceptible to the virus and I have no complaint about vulnerable people taking precautions.

It is the rude, ignorant, intolerant leftists, such as yourself, whom I do disrespect and despise. Learn some manners and decency and educate yourself.

Openly admiring an ignorant dictator like FauXI will get you nowhere with freedom loving people.

“Critical analysis,” my hind leg.

My husband and I just went shopping yesterday at a business that had posted on large signs, "This is a private business. If you do not wear a mask on this property, you are considered a trespasser!"

Smart people will avoid that place like the plague. (Yeah, bad pun intended.) Who wants to be threatened by some underachiever on a power trip and surrounded by a bunch of mind-numbed, TV-hypnotized robots?

One study showed that mask mandates increase mask use by about 1-2%. When I come across an idiot who isn't wearing a mask (or who has it pulled below his nose), I am very careful about keeping my distance.

”One study.” I’m just glad you keep your distance from us free-breathers. Look, it’s a free country. Indulge your nasty mask fetish. Wear three of ‘em. Wear them in the shower and when you go to bed for all I care.

Just leave us “idiots” alone and keep those vile things off of innocent children.
