Why Coca Cola caved: Brand new survey data suggests that corporations that cave to the left alienate more consumers than they attract – by a big margin.

Brand new survey data suggest that corporations that cave to the left alienate more consumers than they attract — by a big margin.  Glenn Reynolds's slogan "Get woke, go broke" turns out to be very true.

Yesterday, in discussing the departure of its general counsel, who mandated a (quite probably illegal) quota for law firms working for the Coca-Cola Company to have 30% of their billable hours performed by minorities and 15% by Blacks, I noted that the company "seems to be learning the hard way that signing up for the racialist agenda of the left has a downside."  Today, we learn, via a Rasmussen poll, some of the sort of data that must have convinced the company to quietly retreat from so openly race-mongering.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 37% of American Adults the company's stand against the new Georgia law makes them less likely to purchase Coca-Cola products. Twenty-five percent (25%) say they are more likely to buy Coke, but 30% say the company's political stance doesn't make much difference.

The survey of 1,000 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on April 15 and 18, 2021 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

A net loss of inclination to purchase its products by twelve percent of the population (37% minus 25%) represents a lot of money. Try reporting a 12% sales decline in any major American corporation and see what happens to your career.

Of course, the minority lawyer quota was only part of Coke's antagonizing a large part of the public.

There was the "try acting less white" training fiasco that got publicity, and the CEO's statement condemning Georgia's voting integrity law.

They don’t give a hoot. They’ve been trained by the Chicoms in the long march.

This is the same company that thought making their product taste like Pepsi was a good idea.

“corporations that cave to the left alienate more consumers than they attract – by a big margin.”

Alienate the folks who buy your product, and they won’t buy your product.

Kinda need to know that BEFORE you run a business.

Their Chinese market share - guaranteed by both governments - is a big part of the reason. Some American conservatives stomping off in a huff won’t have much effect on Coke’s bottom line - but Xi Jinping getting mad and deciding to lock them out of the Chinese market could destroy them.

The Complainers would never drink Coke anyway ,they just see it as a target they can screw with then sit back and laugh to see how much damage the company will do to itself

Exactly. They don’t want to sell here anymore, anyway.

They don’t give a crap about the worthless Dollar. They want the money with that syphilitic Chinese clown on it.

I would expect their shareholders would be up in arms. the largest shareowner of the company is American businessman Warren Buffett.

I like their product, oops, check that, liked it —— but not any more.

And, particularly, not the corporation.

Count on me as a non consumer of all Coca Cola products — for the rest of my life.

I don’t care if they don’t care, either.

This is especially stupid for a product that has numerous similar replacements, and has marketshare largely because of marketing (and placement in restaurants).

How about this crazy idea: businesses should just stick to their business and stay out of politics.

If I want a burger or a beer or whatever, I just want a burger or a beer. I don't want politics. If I want politics I come to FR. If I want comedy, I'll go to CNN or MSNBC. ;-)

If you let the left politicize everything, make everything about race or social issues etc. you play right into their hands. You get so caught up in playing whack-a-mole knocking down their idiotic assertions that you forget they're the ones running the game. Don't play. Ignore them for the spoiled little children they are.

Uh, do your jobs and stay out of politics. Saw a Sam Adams beer ad (?) last night encouraging (guilting) consumers to get the shot and mask back up using “your cousin from Bahstahn”. Never had their 🍺 never will.

They make a product called Topo Chico. I believe this is cultural appropriation.

This was a really stupid move to go after the younger white demographic. They aren’t as likely to go for soda/sports/junk food anyway, so this pissed away the rest of their clientele.

I’m a bit of a believer in ‘go broke, go woke’ theory that companies that were already hurting (TV, Disney, Hollywood) were looking at the #’s and were throwing darts. A lot of it is all the diversity hires and women in marketing/HR too though.

The thing is, even after these companies “back down”, as it says, many people still won’t buy their products, they are that upset by their stupid wokeness...I know I won’t

So, let’s see, this is pitting their ESG score against customer preference. Let’s make sure the customer wins.

BOYCOTT!!!
