Please forgive my ignorance of the law, but how can you have two murder convictions, one manslaughter conviction, when only one person was killed?

Thank you for asking the legal question—why was Chauvin convicted of three counts of murder when only one person was killed?

Better yet, how can you have a man convicted on each of three charges that basically contradict each other?
