“...who lost the most lopsided presidential election after bluntly telling voters to expect a tax increase if he won...”
Hell, he’d win in a landslide with today’s fools.
Yep. Walter Mondale was wrong much of the time. But he was an army veteran and he loved his country. As you noted, there is no one like him in today’s Democrat leadership.
Oh, and one more thing. He was simply a decent person, a good guy. RIP.
When Wellstone died and Mondale replaced him as a senatorial candidate, they held a campaign pep rally at the dead Wellstone’s memorial service. Dems have a tendency of making a circus out of everything
Didn’t Bill hit on his daughter?
I had a brother-in-law that spend a day with him, as a chauffeur for political events.
He said Mondale was a complete A-hole.
About 55 seconds in...
While certainly not a hot topic around here, there were a whole bunch of leftist conspiracy theories about Wellstone’s death.
The mass media ignored those just like they ignore right-wing conspiracy theories.
Yup—Reagan was a guy you wanted to have a beer with...
Mondale was a guy you wanted to muzzle and then punch out...arrogant jerk.
I had salad...wife has me on a diet.
To Mondale’s credit, he was more conservative than any Democrat in Congress today. And he was considered a raging progressive when he ran against Reagan in ‘84 - it shows how completely unhinged the Democrats have become.
“Didn’t Bill hit on his daughter?”
Yes, Bubba was doing her. And she got into a spat with him over his cheating on her with Monica.
Walter Mondale was a “Liberal” of the old school who never tried to be something he wasn’t and a gentleman. Never cared for his politics buy accepted him as a man of honor.
A Liberal like my Dad and Grandfather, not the crazy Leftists we have today.
It didn’t work for Bush 1 either, so Bush 2 decided to have two wars left unbudgeted and unvoted.
I met him when he was Clinton's ambassador to Japan during a function for Japanese companies which had helped build imports from the United States. I found him to be most congenial and even charming.
Great. Now Biden’s got another excuse to order the flags to half staff.
One more stop might have done it
Mondale won MN 49.72% to 49.54
With the glee of brigands, the Reagan campaign touched down in its rival’s home state this morning so President Reagan might personally seek to sway some final, resistant votes from Walter F. Mondale.
A day after they disowned any intent to ‘’rub in’’ their lead in the polls by visiting the Democratic nominee’s home turf, Reagan strategists did precisely that. Without the usual advance preparation, they hurried the President into a rural airport as recorded music played and travelers gawked at Air Force One.
Some thought Mr. Reagan was using the sudden foray to embarrass Mr. Mondale. ‘’Would the Gipper run up the score?’’ he was asked at an impromptu news conference.
‘’I don’t think of it as running up the score,’ Mr. Reagan replied to the question referring to his once having portrayed the Notre Dame football hero George Gipp. ‘’The Gipper would never quit until the final whistle.’
