Sen. Chuck Schumer pressed President Biden on Friday to use executive action to wipe out up to $50,000 in federal student loan debt per borrower, centering veterans and service members in his latest push.

Flanked by a group of local veterans at Hunter College on the Upper East Side, the Senate majority leader said that too many college graduates — including combat veterans who risked their lives overseas — are shackled with crushing debt that plays an outsized role in their life decisions.

Yeah, Chuck...why is BIG EDU allowed to rake in this kind of cash year after year?

Shouldn’t they be dragged before Congress like Big Oil?

Why can't we just forgive the national debt while we're at it?
It's only money, right? It's not like anyone has to work for it.

My wife is a teacher, and taught in an area that paid off their debt if they stayed for five years.

It was considered income.

Same with a friend who had some medical debt written off.

It sounds like you went to school in the 1970’s.

Things are different now, school inflation makes it much more difficult on young people than in the past.

That said, if you borrowed the money you are obligated to pay it back, not other people.

So now we’re going to be responsible for those who do?

That's the plan. You've proven your innate sense of responsibility by virtue of managing your finances. Your reward is to pay for those who cannot.

Ain't it swell?!!

Why stop there? Let’s just take some more of that Monopoly Money and pay off their entire debt. Who cares?

Allow them to discharge the debt though bankruptcy, Chuckie. They don’t deserve to get off scot free. Wreck their credit for a few years.
And sue the universities for failing to provide sufficient warnings about their choice of major.

Hey chuck are you going to WAVE the income taxes on such sizeable debt forgiveness?

Anyone with credit card debt at that level that negotiates it down has to pay income tax on those tens of thousands.

Meanwhile Iheartradio wrote off BILLIONS in debt.

funny how that game works.

If students can’t afford to pay back their loans, they should get a refund from the useless college. Why burden taxpayers with the expense?

Not to mention the salary potential the universities promote is an outright lie. My school said that I could make 35-40K starting and that over 75% of grads were hired within 6 months of graduation. I discovered that even an entry level job for a government inner city clinic requires 2+ years of experience with EHR software and medical office practices.

What about my credit card debt?

Unless you ran it up on Marxist indoctrination courses, like these students did, Chuckie doesn't sympathize.

Why don’t the universities forgive the debt? Lay off five hundred Leftist professors each and the salary savings would just about cover it...after all, that’s what the bloated tuition costs went to cover in the first place. :)

“ Get the money from mommy and daddy or put in a few years of free public service.”
*************

Well, if three years in the army including a tour in Vietnam then I did my obligatory public service. So, after the army I went to college on the GI Bill and worked the night shift at a truck stop. No student loans, paid as I went. But, I attended a college with the word State in its name. Attended 1969 ~ 1972. Anyway, got a BA in Economics. And, got a job, worked for the company 35 years and am now comfortably retired. All it took was hard work and lived within my means. Did I mention that I raised two daughters who graduated from college and paid their way by working and I helped some too. Moral of this is a college degree can be achieved without going in debt if one w-o-r-ks at it. I am not for college loan forgiveness.
