It’s hard for me to imagine any prior civil upheaval taking place if they had our amazing societal conditions, like the poorest being the most likely to be obese. I suspect any enormity will be tolerated as long as people are the fattest, most passively entertained and comfortable in all of history as it happens.

I agree with you. A Civil War requires two sides willing to give up all for a cause. The left marched through the institutions and made sure that they were in control of the police and the judiciary in key cities before they rioted. The right has shown no opposition to the government like that.
Lone actors trying for suicide by government at their front doors does nothing.
