Just 10 miles off the coast of Los Angeles lurks an environmental disaster over 70 years in the making, which few have ever heard about. That is, until now, thanks to the research of a University of California marine scientist named David Valentine.
Working with little more than rumors and a hunch, curiosity guided him 3,000 feet below the ocean's surface. A few hours of research time and an autonomous robotic submersible unearthed what had been hidden since the 1940s: countless barrels of toxic waste, laced with DDT, littering the ocean floor in between Long Beach and Catalina Island.

There was a man on the lecture circuit, can’t remember his name, to demonstrate the safety of DDT would drink a glass of it. He died in his 80s as a result of a mountain climbing accident.
3000 foot depth at ten miles out
Man that is steep coastline ....

Article: Located right near the Golden Gate Bridge, the mission of the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California is to rescue marine mammals in distress. Since 1975, the organization says they have rescued 24,000. In December, the team published a 30-year study on sea lions, finding an alarming statistic: 25% of adult sea lions have cancer.
For decades sea lions along the West Coast have been plagued by a lethal form of cancer. Now scientists have determined the cause of the disease..."It's a sexually transmitted virus, which is actually a very efficient way to spread if you're a virus because you have to reproduce to keep the species going," said Dr. Alissa Deming the lead author of the cancer study. It's believed that contaminated water is triggering the virus to create cancer. - https://freerepublic.com/perl/post?id=3949668%2C15
An earlier project discovered that sea lions with cancer carry a type of herpesvirus, similar to the one that causes a form of viral cancer (Kaposi’s sarcoma) in humans. This time, researchers used complex statistical analyses to more thoroughly investigate what leads to such aggressive cancers in marine animals. Ultimately, the team discovered that sea lions with cancer have damaged DNA due to a number of factors like environmental pollutants and infections by tumor-promoting viruses such as Otarine herpesvirus-1. Surprisingly, individual genetics don’t seem to make much of an impact either way. - https://www.studyfinds.org/sea-lions-cancer-impact-humans-too/
Fiberglass has been determined by the Kalifornicators to be a possible carcinogen. However, fiberglass ductwork has been installed in millions of homes and businesses across the USA and in foreign countries.
IOW, big effing deal.
Arable land is paved over for cleaner air, parking, playgrounds, roads, I see wasted land paved over because of city law...Hillary doesn't obey the law, why should cities? Make arable land a keeper instead of a waste land of macadam and you will see temperatures drop by double digits and the cost of energy as well. Many are the roads to maintaining a true climate starting with perhaps the most argumentative subject of all...human sustainability.
OMG another love canal.
Now 70 years predates Carson’s missive. So, whom would have stockpiled such a large quantity at that time circa 1950 and got rid of it. Seems effective, no one found any mosquitoes in the ocean there I believe??
Off the coast near Palos Verdes (Long Beach) is a toxic dump and that has always been known.

It's like that BP oil leaked that occurred a while back. The amount of oil actually escaping was a mere pinprick compared to the amount of water that it leaked into. You can't say that simply because it's toxic and it's in the ocean it's going to cause any major harm. Which is not to say that it couldn't, but that you've got to take all factors into consideration before running about like a chicken with its head cut off.
I grew up a military dependent in the sixties, and I recall how they used to run trucks spraying huge clouds of DDT all over the housing area. My friends and I used to run behind the trucks, wallowing in the stuff. If there were any ill effects, I'm not aware of them.
I am surprised he didn’t toss in something about the election being stolen was a lie.

The good news is that there is no malaria down there now
I was a Hazmat Officer for many years in charge of a Hazmat Team. We had a saying... “The solution for pollution is dilution.” These days the EPA interpolates from the dose of a chemical or biological agent that will kill you down to very minute amount that they believe will still be harmful in some way. Typically it is not an assumption based on anything close to resembling science... it is just an assumption and the EPA will not release the data that they supposedly used to come to their conclusion.
A big part of my job was to make risk assessment's based on the materials we had available on the substance that had been managed to make it outside of it's container.
Everything from water to oxygen to organically grown meat and produce will kill you in some amount. We have now got generations of people running around believing that minute amounts of chemicals most of which occur naturally somewhere are going to kill them. It is insane from a Hazmat point of view.
...When humans callously pollute the environment it can have consequences for generations to come. One current example is human-caused climate change. The question is, how much of a burden will our children and grandchildren have to bear as result of our choices?
They are relentless.
It is interesting to watch the public’s current reactions to DDT versus the Covid vaccines.

That is liberals in a perfect two word nutshell.
And further, I’m sure I was in clouds of it at one time or another growing up.
I used to have an old military book. In it there was an illustration on how to spray yourself down with DDT dust to control lice.
Reminds me of when the Emperor Claudius dumped Livia’s boxes of poisons into the sea. Right afterward up swelled thousands of dead fish.
