Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died at age 99, the royal family announced Friday.
Philip and the queen were married for more than 70 years, making him the longest-serving spouse of a reigning British monarch. He was the oldest-ever male member of the British royal family.
Philip was born on the Greek island of Corfu on June 10, 1921, to Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenberg.

I love that one:
“When a man opens a car door for his wife, it’s either a new car or a new wife.” — Prince Philips
Rest In Peace.
May God Grant solace to Elizabeth and their children.
Actually, a native of Beijing told me that joke about the Cantonese some years ago.
Especially the episode about the Intruder, that turned into an hour-long Thatcher bash fest. That's when I stopped watching.
Warm beer hits you FASTER!..................
So does pumping it up your butt but it’s not nearly as pleasant, just like drinking it warm isn’t.
Or so I’ve been told.
I believe Michael Fagen himself criticized that episode.
Rest In Peace, a man who did his duty faithfully for decades.
Amen.
Philip was a man, to be sure one who lived a life of privilege (and with very little privacy), but still a man. As such, he was imperfect and made his share of mistakes (and he had a lot more time to make them than most). He had a wife, children, grandchildren (the great grandchildren were likely too young to really know him l) and friends who loved him. Condolences to his loved ones on their loss. Though they are all public figures (and some are most definitely imperfect), they are still people and deserve sympathy at this time. Privacy they’ll never have - and in that sense we’re all better off than them, no matter their wealth or position. Let’s not forget to be decent people - we’re not the Left, after all.
Amen.
Some of those are quite rude, some are outright funny, some are true.
This one is both funny and true:
“When a man opens a car door for his wife, it’s either a new car or a new wife.”
i agree with you about Wallis Markle, but this is a great opportunity to continue to make this about HER.
Evil cow.
His service in the Royal Navy during World War II was exemplary.
while that’s true- Charles made the decision to marry someone he clearly did not love.
(overbearing parents are the worst, and I can’t imagine Royal overbearing parents. They bring it to new highs!)
Philip was also a great-great-grandchild of Queen Victoria, as is the Queen.
Well, one less inbred member of the monarchy. I am humored at Americans gushing over this inbred monarchy, that we defeated and freed ourselves from. What, do they want it back? Maybe Harry can provide spawn that is American enough to run for office here? This family has ruled and now destroyed a great country, shame on them. Strip the money, land, and privilege from them and let them go find a real job like everyone else.
We don’t want them back. American royal watchers (all the Anglophiles) can enjoy them from a safe and non-taxpayer subsidized distance.
"You look like you’re ready for bed," he told Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003 — he was wearing the national dress.
In 2002, he asked Australian aboriginal leader William Brin, "Do you still throw spears at each other?"
Yep, the Me-gains are going to make it all about them and probably try to make a few $$’s off it, too
Particularly useful in dealing with the 'Diana' problem.
His progeny haven’t fallen far from the tree.
What do you have against Anne and Edward?
