CHICAGO (WLS) -- The airline industry expects to recover from the pandemic in a couple of years and when it does, United plans to diversify the cockpit.
It launched a flight school called United Aviate Academy with the goal of training 5,000 pilots by 2030. Half of which will be women and people of color.

And higher end white collar jobs, largely finance/accounting/strategy. Although the Corp effort to change that has started as well, one of the reasons I want to be able to retire in 6-8 years in mid to upper 40s and I encourage the younger guys to save like crazy. At least at my level I get a big severance check if that day comes although very hard to replace me at my company.

While I don’t disagree with what you said in principal, generally when you try to artificially target a racial quota of any type, you are by definition forced to lower standards. An extreme example would be if the NBA announced it would target white players in the league to equal the overall population of around 63%. Sure they could achieve that, many would even be pretty decent players, but far below the skill level of the current group of largely black players. Another problem is simple numbers. Let’s just use the typical bell curve and say 25% of all races are in the smart category and can do these higher tier jobs like a pilot, doctor or run a department for a large company. Then narrow that to working age folks and assume only 90% actually will work. That narrows the pool down to 2% of the US population are qualified blacks for these jobs, and not all will want higher stress, higher education requirement jobs. Their simple aren’t enough minorities in the US for all these companies to all achieve these silly quotas. I’ll tell you what though it is a fantastic time to be a young, bright and upcoming minority currently in Corp America because they are in very, very high demand. If I was a black female, I’d likely be a CFO of a company my size rather than a VP pushing SVP and 5ish years from CFO level.
Depends more on how they were brought up and educated way more than skin color (from my experience anyway)

Same here. No more flying. But there is still a chance of planes hitting you on the ground.
What United isn’t saying is that pilot pay is so low that white males aren’t going into the industry in the numbers they had in the past. Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who made an emergency landing in the Hudson River along Manhattan New York, warned of the future problems that were coming due to low pay in the industry.
I suspect the NTSB will be hiring also
A friend of mine flew from Florida to Washington State at 1000 feet in a Blackhawk helicopter. He said he spent much of the time sitting on the deck with the doors open gazing in wide wonder. They took about a week to make the trip. He said it was an awesome way to see the country.
I hope they don’t discriminate against dementia.
There must be someone who is willing to sue over this. A clear case of racial and sexual discrimination.
