Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is calling on Republicans to boycott Coca-Cola after the company stated its disapproval for a new voting law in Georgia.
"If they want to boycott us why don't we boycott them," Paul said during an appearance on Fox News on Tuesday. "This is the only thing that will teach them a lesson. If Coca-Cola wants to only operate in Democrats states and have only Democrats drink them, God love 'em. We'll see how well they do when half the country quits drinking Coca-Cola."
After the controversial bill was passed by Republicans in Georgia late last month, Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey called the measure "unacceptable."
“Let me be crystal clear and unequivocal, this legislation is unacceptable, it is a step backward and it does not promote principles we have stood for in Georgia, around broad access to voting, around voter convenience, about ensuring election integrity, and this is frankly just a step backwards,” Quincey said.
A slew of other companies followed, including Delta Airlines, JP Morgan Chase and Major League Baseball, which pulled its annual All-Star Game out of Atlanta over the bill's passage.
Democrats have argued the bill makes it harder for many people, particularly minorities, to vote. Republicans say the bill is needed to beef up election security amid a growing distrust among conservatives with the electoral process following the 2020 elections.
Coca-Cola is headquartered in Atlanta.
Former President Trump last week called on his supporters not to support Coca-Cola and other companies that have voiced opposition to the Georgia elections bill and similar measures being proposed by Republicans around the country.
"For years the Radical Left Democrats have played dirty by boycotting products when anything from that company is done or stated in any way that offends them. Now they are going big time with the WOKE CANCEL CULTURE and our sacred elections," Trump said in a statement over the weekend. "It is finally time for Republicans and Conservatives to fight back— we have more people than they do— by far! Boycott Major League Baseball, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, ViacomCBS, Citigroup, Cisco, UPS and Merck. Don’t go back to their products until they relent. We can play a better game than them."
A group of GOP state lawmakers in Georgia wrote a letter to the CEO of the Georgia Beverage Association asking their office no longer be stocked with Coca-Cola products.
“Given Coke’s choice to cave to the pressure of an out of control cancel culture, we respectfully request all Coca-Cola Company products be removed from our office suite immediately,” the letter reads. “Should Coke choose to read the bill, share its true intentions and accept their role in the dissemination of mistruths, we would welcome a conversation to rebuild a working relationship.
Drank rum and coke in my youth. Had a bad experience so gave up coke. Boycotting coke since 1982. Hopefully Captain Morgan won’t get woke.
Damn dude! Your are better off buying the grocery store brand cola than going with uber liberal Pepsi.
I quit purchasing Coca Cola. F’em. Also, what’s up with their commercials? They are very disturbing.
I gave up all sodas on 01/01/21. Keep a case of store brand h2o in my office now to drink during the day.
It is still 18% owned by Coca-Cola, Inc. and that is enough for me.
Dr. Rand I agree completely. Haven’t had a Coke product in years.
Haven’t gagged on it since I was seven; not even the diet stuff.
I guess if we would be honest, eventually the only things we won’t be boycotting in the future are worms and beetles . . . (an MyPillow).
Too late. I’ve been Boycotting them for over a decade.
If you haven’t sworn off Coca Cola until now, you’ve been part of the problem.
Dr. Pepper RC Cola Pepsi Snapple to mane a few are great alternatives. But do not stop there when it comes to fast food Wendy’s Taco Bell and KFC to name a few sell Pepsi the same holds for privately held restaurants.
I was surprised to learn that Coke acquired the Topo Chico mineral water brand a long time ago. It was a shame because I’d occasionally indulge.
Couldn't states pass a sales tax on a corporation's products and services based on their percentage of non-citizen employees and/or number of employees?
That sounds like an excellent idea. I’m not sure what kind of traction it would get though.
Boycott’s are stupid, are part of the cancel culture BS, and deflect from the point of the issue.
I think filtered tap water is the best thing to be drinking. I often put a few jiggers of bitters to do my liver a favor.
Here is an interesting comparison of Brita versus Zerowater.
We have used Brita for about 3 decades and are using our 4th pitcher. We save about $300’s per year by using the Brita versus bottled water. We throw away the old Brita Filter on the 1st of the month. It is amazing the crud and weight gain of the filter in 1 month. We use the Brita water to make our coffee and just to drink. In the summer, I make sun tea with the Brita water, our tea and Meyer Lemon juice.
All loaded with High Fructose Corn Syrup which is 1.5 x sweeter than Sugar. Coca-Cola Company products have a substantial role in leading over 80 million Americans to be in a pre-diabetic condition. What good are they?
Woke-A-Cola... lol
How is Coke still a thing...it was invented by a Confederate drug addict...John Stith Pemberton (July 8, 1831 – August 16, 1888) was an American pharmacist and Confederate States Army veteran who is best known as the inventor of Coca-Cola. In May 1886, he developed an early version of a beverage that would later become Coca-Cola, but sold his rights to the drink shortly before his death.
He suffered from a sabre wound sustained in April 1865, during the Battle of Columbus; his ensuing morphine addiction led him to experiment with various painkillers and toxins. In the end, this led to the recipe that later was adapted to make Coca-Cola.
CC is involved in Dr. Pepper as is Pepsi
Corruption has infiltrated almost everything American.
