So yeah, I'm going to have to change my calculus for the vaccine. 2,000 deaths with 60 million vaccinations. That means 99.997% survival from vaccination. From the 3,000 deaths per day at the peak back in January from 200,000 cases per day at the peak, I would at least double the cases for the undetected cases. That means the disease was 99.25% survivable. I'd still go with the shot.
It means, in short, that the risk from the vaccine is nontrivial although still small. So people need to think about it versus their risk of getting COVID.

Phase III requirements were waived by the FDA for these vaccines, under “Emergency Use.” Emergency Use can only be granted if no other treatments are available. IMHO those taking the shots (that feel fine 2 weeks after getting the jabs) ARE the phase 3 trial participants...
And I seem to recall reading that some pharma companies have tried to obtain approval to do Phase 3 trials in the past on RNA type shots, but did not succeed in gaining approval due to safety concerns.

All vaccines went through proper phase 3 trials. In fact the FDA forced the Oxford vaccine to do a phase 3 study that represents the American population after the company did other phase 3 studies in the world.

IMHO Phase III trials have been re-defined as they only lasted for weeks, not years...prior to approval...See below some where enrolled in a 2 year study—which obviously is not complete...
Those taking the jab now are the participants in what would be normal traditional Phase 3 or 4.

What happens in phase III?

Don’t be shocked, but the Chinese probably stole it from the US or Canada. Right before the outbreak, several Chinese scientists were kicked out of Canada for stealing secrets. The US and Canada do not want it known that they are still doing biological weapons research. The Chinese screwed up and accidentally let it loose, or perhaps, they did it on purpose. Tyrannical regimes are notoriously inept.
The phase 3 trials were cut for the vaccines. The phase 3 trials were properly run. What was expedited was eliminating the red tape to allow the studies and their assessments to move forward in real time. And you can thank President Trump for a lot of it.
I am very familiar how these trials work and have been involved in my fair share of them.
