Gov. Tom Wolf announces plan to produce 50% of state government electricity through solar energy

Gov. Tom Wolf on Monday announced a major clean energy initiative that he said will produce nearly 50% of the state government’s electricity through new solar energy arrays.

Wolf said Pennsylvania PULSE (Project to Utilize Light and Solar Energy) will go into operation Jan. 1, 2023.

According to the governor, the project is the largest solar commitment by any government in the U.S. announced to date.

Solar arrays will be built in seven locations in six counties: York, Juniata, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland and Snyder.

The total 191-megawatt project is expected to deliver 361,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year.

"This clean, environmentally-friendly solar energy will lower our annual carbon dioxide emission statewide by 157,000 metric tons, which is the equivalent of taking more than 34,000 cars off the road," General Services Secretary Curt Topper said.

Officials said the solar project will also create 400-plus jobs.

I got that. My point is that solar is insignificant, and the tiny amount that of capacity that the state intends to install will be very expensive. And when the “carbon free” state facilities are needed most and unavailable, they will have to rely on natural gas.

Wow. Wolfe really is a wacko. Way out of touch with reality.

Can’t be done in winter with ice, fog, clouds and snow

It’s gonna take more aholes with squeegees and snow shovels than that to keep yer solar panels clear

Ha! ;>)

Shows what you know. Maryland NIST campus has a few acres of solar panels for campus power. The recent snow/ice storm covered the panels for most of the week, long after roads and ground snow had melted. Passed by several times a day and never saw any clearing crew or evidence of cleared panels.

The answer is more solar power! Direct sunlight to clear the ice and snow...only problem was temps remained at freezing or below with heavy overcast skies for a week. So their on-site generating plant kicked in until Mother Gaia allowed the sun to shine....funny that fact never appeared in local media. IIRC, 6 megawatt loss for 6-7 days.

ps. Governor Wolf must not have been around for the March 1993 Blizzard...or he's just plain stupid or corrupt...I thinks it's both.

They could produce power for decades if they just burned all the fake mail-in ballots for fuel...
