Former President Donald Trump, in a podcast interview released Monday, listed a number of Republicans he sees as potential successors if he opts not to run for the White House again, which he said he is still considering.
.....
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), another Republican who largely fell behind Trump after facing his ridicule during the 2016 primary and who has more recently trained his fire on Dr. Anthony Fauci, “has been great,” Trump said.
....
Rest of the list...

Matt Gaetz is singular and inspiring; I support him and contribute modestly on a regular basis. However, so far he has not been able to pull to the front of the pack in media coverage. He could take a lesson, perhaps, from Trump, who emerged completely dominant despite the media. I think that Gaetz has it in him.
That's the cover story. In reality, it was not a style & form veto, but a gutting of the bill to make it meaningless. In violation of what is appropriate for such a rejection, she watered down the provisions for K-12, and removed them altogether for the collegiate level.
She didn’t veto the bill. She sent it back to the legislature for revisions. I’ll wait until the outcome before I crucify her. Let this play out and see what happens.
“Noem hasn’t self-imposed. She sent the Bill back so it can be rewritten to be able to withstand lawsuits in case it goes to the Supreme Court.”
That’s her spin, but a bill that’s purely symbolic, as her demands will make this one, won’t need court challenges, it will simply be ignored by the guys who take over girls/women’s sports.
I was so-so with Cruz until he stepped in it regarding Cancun. Either Cruz is a TOTAL IDIOT for thinking he could simply go to a major airport and not be noticed as he flees the blackouts, or the people around him are convinced him it was fine to go (or both). Regardless, I don’t see how explains that away to middle America. Trump should have kept him off that list, just for that reason, although I would have added the personal stuff too, including Cruz’s attack on Trump right after the ‘insurrection’.
“How has Noem self imploded???”
There were about 10 articles this week on it, where she demanded gutting the bill to make it meaningless in preventing boys/men from taking over women’s sports. The Federalist probably did the best dissection of what she wanted the bill to become.
“That should not have surprised me because he stood with “protesters” in NYC who were hassling Trump supporters as they tried to enter Trump’s first rally. He canceled the event out of concern for the safety of his supporters.”
Agree, Cruz has a super-inflated view of himself and that is NOT what people on our side want to deal with. He’s even worse than Bush Jr., maybe up there with Rick Perry, when he demanded little girls get vaccinated with the (donor-sponsored) HPV shot, so they could have Wild and Crazy Sex all through high school (among other crap Perry did as my governor).
“Desantis yes, Hawley no. Empty suit.”
Didn’t know either way with Hawley, bummer if true, as I had only heard good things about him. What’s the issue with Hawley?
More a feeling. I've watched him as Attorney General and as Senator, have met him twice, and have come away with the feeling that there is no 'there' there. He's in it for Hawley at any cost.
Another thing with Disantis is that we have had the chance to see him actually do something. To successfully run a state and rack up a string of accomplishments. We don’t have the same with Hawley or almost any other senator.
The entire GA 2018 fiasco proves he does. It always make the eighth call. He wanted a $2 trillion deficit spending bill last year and it took the GOP to stop him. He was going to send a spending bill to congress-pre-covid-raising the deficit over a trillion-yet people in his cult think he’s always right. He’s not.
I am in the Pompeo camp. Running mate could be DeSantis, Noem, Rand Paul, Tim Scott, Steve Scalise. There is a strong bench on the Republican side. We have some time to decide.
Pompeo has more brain cells than both Kamala and Joe combined. AOC has maybe 0.0925% of Pompeo’s brain cells.
But now he’s going to Iowa and not ruling out the possibility of running himself.
You mean like only backing someone eligible?
I think one of my final straw for Lyn’ Ted was that very cringe worthy attempt of his to kiss his daughter. There’s definitely some history there that is very, very bad.
I heard interviewed this morning. She was logical and cogent on the issue. The articles are full of crap
