Heretofore ignored by the legacy press and mainstream media, in February, federal authorities invaded a neighborhood in the Flathead Valley with militarized police and terrorized its occupants with what appears to be Waco-level tyrannical overreach.
In 1992, a federal siege occurred in Boundary County, Idaho, at a location known as Ruby Ridge. The eleven-day siege lasted from August 21-31 and resulted in the deaths of one U.S. Marshall, and the wife and son of Randy Weaver, the target of the siege. This event captured the attention of the nation. To secure the land around this seven-person home composed of three adults and four children, the federal government saw fit to send in hundreds of federal agents, as well as associated vehicles and air support. . .
. . .The reasons for the siege are not pertinent here, but the fact is many lessons were learned as a result. Those lessons revolved around Rules of Engagement, the use of force, and other legal concerns. One would have hoped the lessons would be applied in future encounters, but in 1993 the same FBI Hostage Rescue Team commander took part in the siege and raid of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. After fifty-one days, the compound was breached and seventy-five people were killed, including twenty-five children. Nearly thirty years after Ruby Ridge, it seems that the only real lesson federal agencies applied from Ruby Ridge and Waco is that they needed to do a better job of keeping their activities out of the eyes of the public. Why? Because a similar event occurred in Western Montana on February 2, 2021, and it’s likely you’ve not heard anything about it.
In the early Tuesday morning hours, motion sensors alerted the occupant . . ."

A couple of years ago there was a story about a western sheriff who kicked the feds out of his county. I don;t remember the state, but I thought it was MT.
You sound pretty sharp. Maybe you could give us a link.
Yes. That would be true.
“Does anyone have a legal citation or reference for this?”
For starters, what is the Federal jurisdiction? It is clearly defined in the U.S. Constitution.
You are living in fantasy land.
We are talking about the time when federal tyrants toss the constitution and all those pretty little court rulings out the window and begin enforcing their agenda by brute force rule of law be damned thank you very much.
I can just see you waggling your finger at an armored federal goon yelling “hey you can’t do that!”
Grow up
An elected sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer in his county. Whether he acts that way is a different issue.
Geezers
In my state sheriffs are state officers directly under the governor’s authority.
They can and have removed sheriffs from office and can order a sheriff to suppress any lesser state law enforcement officer.
Any municipal officer who resists the governor’s orders commits insurrection, which is usually dealt with by the state National Guard at the governor’s direction.
Like hell sport. First of all I said without a lawsuit ending in a judgement or a consent decree.
Second of all, some DFFA (dumb ******* federal agent) cannot stroll is and “take over”.
Please tell us where the Feds have removed a Sheriff OTHER than arresting that person for a crime? The Sheriff in most cases in America is elected and not subject to removal by a court order (short of his arrest for a crime...like anybody).
F-troop cannot do that anymore than they can “take over” a state or city and remove the governor or mayor.
The Sheriff is not a mere administrative district of the FBI. Maybe you missed that class at FLETC.
Completely unresponsive, which is the refuge of the uniformed.
When you can pass a bar exam, come back and talk then.
Three Tanks,,,
Texas should be
A little more difficult.
“They “take over” if they simply need the manpower for backup”.
LOL, you’re full of yourself and wrong. Locals can and DO pull officers and deputies from task forces when the Feds are disrespectful towards that Department, or do things that cause them to fall into disrepute.
A classic example of this is Secret Service holding an event REQUESTING support from a local jurisdiction. They do not have the power to come in and commandeer them.
Federal agencies do not have the power to compel locals to be their manpower. They make many deals with locals for this very reason. “Yes, you can get a grant for a tank, a helicopter, Stingrays, etc”, or “Yes you can send officers to our cool training facility” etc etc... “but you must assist us when we REQUEST assistance, or you lose the grant”.
Like I said...too many movies. You’ll learn more as you grow in your career.
I don’t know what communist state you live in, but most sheriffs are elected. They out rank any city or fed cops in their county.
I’ve read your posts and understand you favor corrupt federal LEOs having carte blanch to do as they please.
NO Federal agent is a superior to a Sheriff. If a Federal agent has a Federal charge against a Sheriff, of course he can be arrested like anyone else.
But the FBI cannot walk in and give orders to a Sheriff or his deputies.
I’ll give you one further. A Sheriff does not HAVE to accept Federal prisoners into his jail. The Feds gain this arrangement and PRIVILEGE by sugar, not vinegar. If they stroll in making demands, they find they have to drive to another county that will allow them.
“They simply conduct operations without the knowledge or consent of local police and or sheriff. They do not need anyone’s permission.”
Actually they do, if they would like to take their prisoner to the local jail. The feds have very few lockups. This principle was central to the old west. The US Marshal was VERY careful to have a good relationship with the local sheriff. Otherwise, if he arrested someone, he was on his on to house his prisoner.
Sheriff’s powers are a creation of State law and vary WIDELY from State to State.
Ask Darryl Daniels and Scott Israel after they were removed from office by the Florida Governor. Or Kenny Boone who was removed by the South Carolina Governor.
Removal procedures and powers vary as well. In New York: “ The governor may remove any elective sheriff, county clerk, district attorney or register within the term for which he or she shall have been elected; but before so doing the governor shall give to such officer a copy of the charges against him or her and an opportunity of being heard in his or her defense.”
In Maine: “Whenever the county commissioners find that the sheriff is not faithfully or efficiently performing any duty imposed by this chapter or that the sheriff is improperly exercising or acting outside the sheriff’s authority, the commissioners may file a complaint with the Governor describing in detail the facts of those actions or omissions and requesting the Governor to remove the sheriff from office and appoint another sheriff in that office for the remainder of the term.”
In some States (mainly in the northeast), Sheriffs don’t even have general law enforcement responsibilities.
an fbi sniper shot an unarmed woman(holding a baby) in the back who posed NO danger to ANYBODY. He was NEVER disiplined, prosecuted or fired. He was given a medal and now lives off the taxpayer as a retiree of the fbi. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lon_Horiuchi The account on wikipedia is BS! There was no shooting going on at the time. This is manufactured crap! All she did was step out onto the porch (holding her baby)and then turn to go back into the house. This scumbag shot her in the doorway because he was ordered not to allow anyone to go back into the structure. That’s it! Any man that shoots an unarmed woman(especially holding a baby) is a scumbag! If I had done something like this when I was in LE, I would have been crucified! I’d have been summarily fired, prosecuted, convicted and sent to prison. But, if you’re a fed... you don’t have to worry about any of that.
