I remember, before I was enlightened to what scum the elite were, how happy I was that this guy had won office. We had considered it a victory. Yet it was just more swamp slime wrapping itself around more power.
It was the same when Pat Toomey replaced Arlen "Not Proved" Specter. It was great in the beginning, but we ended up with another entrenched clymer in the end.
I've said many times over the years that giving up a seat to get rid of a RINO was preferable to keeping the RINO so long as the goal was to replace the RAT who took the seat with a conservative next time around. Maybe that's the better way to go than the likes of Thune and Toomey who, far as I recall, both seemed solidly conservative but may have just been sufficiently different that we overlooked what was really there.
Of course, the real solution is not have government in every aspect of our lives so it doesn't matter anywhere near this degree what Congress does, but that ship hasn't just sailed, it's orbiting the galaxy with a 12 parsecs headstart.
They say, confession is good for the soul, I confess, I too, donated to the young Thune, and it took at least 10 years before he stopped bugging me for more donations.
I learned fairly quickly that he was a squish, but by then he was entrenched and the swamp had another acolyte.
Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa. {followed by a drink of wine}
